    1) In this section of the book, Tally becomes more familiar with the Smoke, its people, its traditions and many other things. She has realized how many people’s lives she would be ruining if she opened her pendant and gave the signal to Dr.Cable. Tally has tried to tell Shay but she couldn’t and now she is afraid that people might actually find out why she came to the Smoke in the first place.
    2) I was surprised that Tally had decided to stay in the Smoke for longer than a couple of days. She’s been living there for about 2-3 weeks now and has grown to love the place. This shocks me because up until now she has always been about becoming pretty and seeing Peris but suddenly it’s not about all of that anymore.
    3) At the beginning of this book, Tally is just like every other stereotypical teenager in Uglyville waiting to become a pretty. But now she has changed because she actually likes the Smoke and believes that she belongs there. “Tally would be pretty right now, high up in a party tower with Peris and Shay and a bunch of new friends at this very moment. But the image in her mind didn’t give Tally the thrill it usually did; it just fell flat, like a song she’d heard too many times” (Westerfeld 250). Suddenly, Tally has shifted her focus from becoming pretty to what really matters in the world like a real future, friends, and most importantly a home where everyone can just be themselves.
    4) If I was in Tally’s shoes I would continue to stay in the Smoke and grow closer to the friends that she has already made like Shay, David, and Croy. I would also find a way to destroy the heart pendant so that it could never give off a signal to Dr.Cable. Lastly, I would tell everyone the truth about why I actually came to the Smoke because keeping a secret for a longer and longer amount of time only makes it worse. This is what I would do if I were in Tally’s shoes.

Jenny starts a fight with Will, Steve is involved and voluntarily leaves town before he is voted out. As outcasts Jenny and Steve get revenge on Will, during this they become closer and express their emotions towards each other. “The next thing i knew, we were kissing” said Steve (Hirsch 168). I was shocked by Steves feelings towards Jenny, but i felt happy that he was finally close with someone else besides his dad. With Steves Dad now in a comma Steve is lonely and frustrated, his only goal is to become smarter. Steves teacher Mr. Tuttle told Steve that he could learn and be one of the few educated people in a world that cared only for people that could create or destroy things. “If you have a desire to be more than what you are, if you want the world to be more than it is, study these in addition to your regular work” Mr.Tuttle (Hirsch 152). Steve is truly committed to learning more, in fact he left the safety of the old barn to sneak back into town and retrieve his school books. If I was Steve I would not sneak back into town because you could be caught and then punished with even worse consequences than banishment. Also Steve could get his new love Jenny in trouble and have her take on worse consequences as well.

    1. In this section her life remains very similar to the way it was until she went outside. She went outside to go get her mail and heard a group of people talking about how people are going missing and that it’s not safe to go outside anymore. The next day there is a meeting at town hall saying that school will be resumed. Miranda goes and there aren’t enough high school students to make a school so she takes books and goes home to learn on her own. 2. Miranda found chocolate in the pantry and she ate the whole bag. She did this because she didn’t have any control of what she was doing when all she had been eating was canned vegetables. I didn’t like when she did this because it showed how little of self-control she has. 3. Miranda and her older brother Matt have always gotten along and when he came back safe she was happier. She cares a lot about him and looks up to him a lot. This shows that she cares about her family and that she wants them to all be okay. 4. If I was were Miranda was right now I would be reacting the way she is. She didn’t want to go to school, but she realized that it shouldn’t be about her and she went to school anyways. When the school didn’t work out she took the materials she could and tried her hardest. 5. In the middle of the book Miranda is very different than the beginning. She didn’t believe that anything this drastic would happen and now that it is happening she is takes more precaution. What is motivating her is that everything will get better. She wants everything to go back to the way it was and everyone to be okay. “But at least it’ll be something to do.” Page 167.

    Maze Runner Blog post #4

    1) Thomas went to stay a day in prison, and then learns how to be a runner. The girl, Theresa, telepathically talks to him and triggers the ending, where the Grievers start killing off the Gladers and Thomas and Theresa must find their way out.
    2) This section showed a lot of strength for Thomas, because he had to be ready for anything when the walls didn't close and work quicker than ever before.
    3) During this section, Thomas becomes a leader figure in the book. Since the regular leader, Alby, was a little out of his mind, Minho, the Runner keeper, and Thomas had to keep the Gladers from panicking about the loss of the sun in the sky. "But it was all gray. Not cloudy, not twilight, not the early minutes of dawn. Just gray," (Dashner 218). Minho and Thomas also discovered that the Grievers were able to escape the Maze, so they might be able to also. Thomas had realized that he may have been responsible for what the Gladers were going through so he felt like he had to do all in his power to help.
    4) I think I would've acted a lot like Thomas in this situation. I am known to be good in chaotic situations like the ones starting up in this section of the book.

    The Program by Suzanne Young

    1) In this section of the book Sloane learns that Realm, a good friend of hers in the Program, is a planted participant in the Program, meaning his job is to act like one of the suicidalists and help them get through the Program. This upsets Sloane but her memories of finding this information out are quickly erased. At the end of the section, Sloane is released from the Program with no memory of her past life.
    2) What mostly surprised me about this section was how many memories Sloane lost. I know it wasn’t her fault, but she even forgot that her brother killed himself in front of her which seems like something that’d be pretty hard to forget.
    3) The best word to describe Sloane in the middle of the book is unstable. Sloane is depressed the entire time she is in the Program, crying often and missing her boyfriend and friends. She is sad when she learns that Realm is a planted participant. She is upset when she can’t remember the people she once loved. She is angry at all the doctors and nurses. The very last portion of the middle she is numb because all of her memories are gone. Her mood constantly changes. “His words hit me harder than any slap. There’s a twist in my gut, a pain my heart. Love?” (Young 216). In this quote, Sloane is responding to someone asking her if she remembered the person she once loved. During the quote, Sloane is experiencing a flood of different emotions, showing her unstable emotions and her unstable feelings.
    4) If I were Sloane when she first learned that Realm was planted in the Program, I would have gone and told someone instead of talking to Realm about it first. After finding out something so important about one of my friends and if there was even the slightest chance that memory would be forcibly taken from me, I would have told someone about it to preserve the memory with another person.

1.) Tris is starting to go into the third part of initiation trials. This is like the second trials but instead of being hooked up by machines you are put into a small room that can make the scenes of your fears come up. Four helps her prepare and they end up kissing but then she gets mad at him after her third trial for being not being the real him around everyone else.
2.) I can't believe that Tris and Four kissed I expected something going on between them but not that. I really like Tris since she is daring and rebellious for doing this since he is one of her trainers.
3.) In the middle of the book, I think that Tris is starting to get more comfortable but she needs to be safe since she is Divergent. She was motivated by Four a lot in the middle of the book. Four motivated her to be bold and keep her head high when she gets out of the medical center after almost being thrown off the chasm. " 'You're going to want to march into breakfast tomorrow and show your attackers they had no effect on you,' " (Roth 286). Fours is motivating her to be comfortable and to be strong and brave. Tris is really becoming a different person from when she was in Abnegation to now in Dauntless.
4.) I can't believe that Tris was not too upset when Al killed himself. I know he was mean at the end when he changed but he had used to be her friend.

    Delirium by Lauren Oliver

In this section, Lena and Alex get closer even though Lena knows that Alex is an invalid and she thinks that she now has deliria. She also becomes close with Hana again; Hana knows about Alex and she covers for the two of them when they want to spend time with each other. In the end of the section, Alex takes Lena to the Wilds and shows her around and takes her to his house. I like Lena and I wasn’t too surprised when she agreed to go to the Wilds with Alex. She really likes him and she wanted to see and know more. In the middle of the book, Lena starts changing because she is finally seeing the world in a way she has never seen it before. She sees love as something good and she is starting to believe that a lot of the things she has learned in school about the government and their way of life are lies. Lena finally says a word that has been banned in her society and she realizes that it is not all that bad and she feels so much better after saying it. “‘I love it.’ The word pops out, and instantly the weight on my chest dissipates. ‘I love it,’ I say again, testing it. An easy word to say, once you say it. Short. To the point. Rolls off the tongue. It’s amazing I’ve never said it before,” (Oliver 298). Lena feels more relaxed after she used the word ‘love’ for the first time. The end of this section reminded me a little bit about Fahrenheit 451 because after they discovered the cure, poetry was banned. Lena didn’t know about poems or fairytales because certain types of literature was forbidden in their society, just like how it was in Fahrenheit 451.

Darrow is now thoroughly emersed into the game that the capital has put them into, he runs into House of Minerva and tries to steal their horses but is unsuccessful, so House Minerva has it out fot them, Darrow nicknamed the "Reaper" pairs with House of Diana and ambushes the Minervans by pretending to duel with one of their own while hiding his secet warriors, "Howlers", in the bellies of dead horses. They attack and take House Minerva and Diana as their slaves and all seems well till they find out about the House of Pluto and the "Jackal", who is a ruthless leader, that slips Cassius a holo that shows Darrow killing his brother; he takes Darrow to a secluded area and stabs him then leaves him to die alone. I thought it was really smart how Darrow attacked House of Minera because everyone thought that House of Mars was stupid and ruled by rage but they cunningly hid in the bellies of dead houses and cut themselves out which was quite disgusting but got them ahead in the game no less. Darrow is now more comfortable being a Gold and has even made friends with the other Golds who feel as if they are his brothers. He still hasn't changed that much because he knows he will probaly have to kill his new "brothers" some day but he is also becoming more comfortable as a leader in his House. "I forget that Cassius, Roque, Sevro, and I are enemies. Red and Gold. I forget that one day I might have to kill them all. They call me brother, and I cannot but think of them in the same way,"(Brown 232). Darrow doesn't want to have to kill the people he considers brothers but he will if it would make Reds free one day so he is motivated to have his people no longer under slavery. If I were Darrow in the book I would try not to get so attached to the Golds because the only reason he isn't dead in front of them is due to the fact that they that he is a Gold but if he was a Red, he would be like a bug under their feet, its only purpose to be smashed and killed.

    The Hunger Games
The games are going by fast and there only a few people left. On the announcement it says that two tributes can survive as long as there in the same district. This changes everything for Katniss. When Katniss cuts the branch with the wasp nest and the wasps killed some of the people on the ground. Katniss is very brave and intelligent. “Besides, if I’m going to die today, it’s Rue I want to win.” Katniss knew she could have died but she knew that she had to take the chance because that was the only chance of her surviving. This proves that she is intelligent and brae. She did this because she wants to help Rue win if she can’t. If I was in Katniss’s shoes when she cut the wasp nest on the people on the ground I would not have done that. I wouldn’t take that big of a chance of death because the wasps are very dangerous and she could have easily ran away from the people when they were sleeping.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

    1) This section of the book began with Katniss killing two tributes, one from District 1, and one from District 2. She did this by cutting down a branch that held a tracker jacker nest, full of highly dangerous genetically modified wasps. After escaping alive, Katniss continues to hunt and treat her injuries to survive. Soon enough, she becomes allies with Rue, the young girl from District 11. The two decide to share their supplies, and help each other to survive. To disturb the Career Tributes, they decide to blow up their supplies. Rue sets up three distraction fires, while Katniss successfully fires an arrow to release a chain reaction that caused the land mines in the Cornucopia to blow up the resources. By the time the allies meet again, Katniss finds Rue in trouble. The boy from District 1 impaled Rue with a spear, killing her in the process. Katniss kills the boy, but she becomes deeply depressed, until the rules are changed so that both tributes from a district can be crowned victor.
    2) Katniss is still a likeable character, as she cared for Rue, who was someone she could have easily deceived. After Rue's death, she even honored her by placing a bouquet of flowers on her body, and she paid her respects to the people of District 11 that were close to Rue.
    3) In the middle of the book, Katniss is the most courageous as she has ever been, as she is close to winning the Hunger Games. "I really think I stand a chance of doing it now. Winning. It's not just having the arrows or outsmarting the Careers a few times, although those things help. Something happened when I was holding Rue's hand, watching the life drain out of her. Now I am determined to avenge her, to make her loss unforgettable, and I can only do that by winning and thereby making myself unforgettable." (Collins 242). She is both
motivated by the fact that she will see her family again, and she wants to avenge Rue, who she saw as an innocent little girl who never deserved death. Additionally, Katniss discovered that her and Peeta could both be crowned victors if they are the last tributes alive, as they had convinced the citizens of the Capitol of their love, so the Gamemakers changed the rules. If Katniss and Peeta won together, then neither would feel guilty, and they could provide for both of their families back in District 12. As you can see, Katniss has gone from being determined to being confident that she can return home, and there is a high possibility she will see her mother and Prim again.

Independent Reading Post 4; The Program
As Sloane spends more weeks in The Program, her memory is going blank, and she is becoming scared; eventually, she can’t even remember James, or if she ever had a boyfriend. Sloane’s only friend in The Program, Realm, has turned out to be working for The Program, and when he figures out that she knows this information, he erases her memory. Soon, Sloane returns home, knowing no one but her parents, and she is given false information that her brother died from an accident, when it was really suicide. When Sloane returns to her normal school, she doesn’t remember anyone. Lacey, Sloane’s best friend before The Program, meets Sloane, but neither of them remember each other because their memories were erased. I was surprised that Sloane didn’t remember her, because they were best friends. During this part in the book, Sloane is a lot less rebellious, but it is because of all the medication and the erasing of her memory. The things that motivated Sloane was knowing that she would leave soon, and Realm. Realm wanted to spend time with her after The Program, and because she didn’t remember what he did, she agreed. They acted as if they were dating, although James and Sloane had never officially broken up - they just forgot each other. “Realm reaches up suddenly, holding a handful of my curls. ‘No,’ he says. ‘Your hair’s beautiful.’ He shrugs. ‘You’re beautiful,’” (Young 250). Also, Sloane is excited to be released from The Program, and that will makes it easier for Sloane to comply with the rules. If I were Sloane, I would try to remember the things that I had once been through. I would ask parents, or old students, even if I hadn’t been friends. I would probably be upset that I had pieces of broken memories, and not all of them.

Tally began to get used to the lifestyle in The Smoke and she became friendly with everyone there. She also started to get closer to Shay's friend, David, who made her realize she wasn't an ugly because she had a great personality inside. I was surprised when Tally threw her pendant in the fire because I didn't think she would make the decision to stay in The Smoke. By doing that action, she basically gave up her life in her old society and doesn't wish to become a pretty anymore. In the beginning of the book, Tally was so excited to become pretty and that was all she ever dreamed of when she lived in Uglyville. Now that is the last thing she wants to become because the people in The Smoke changed her way of thinking. David's parents told Tally about people who got the operation to be a pretty always had an odd cell in their brains called a lesion which changed their way of thinking. Tally didn't know there was so much to the operation and she was disgusted. She realized that she was fine the way she was and would rather be with people like her then fake people. This made her throw her pendant in the fire so she would never have to worry about Dr. Cable finding The Smoke and destroying it. "Tally focused all her doubts on it, all her fear and discovery, her terror at Dr. Cable's threats. She clutched the pendant, squeezing the unyielding metal until her muscles ached, as if forcing into her own mind the almost unthinkable fact that she might really remain an ugly for life" (Westerfeld 281). It was a life chafing decision for Tally to make but she knew what she wanted in life. If I were in Tally's position I would have told David and Shay about what Dr. Cable made her to with the pendant before she threw it away so they would know the real truth about it. David and Shay believed that the pendant was given to Tally by her lover back in Uglyville but Tally was so nervous to tell them the truth. I think they should've told them before she threw it out so Tally wouldn't regret it in the future.

    1) In this section, the officials take all of the citizen’s artifacts from them, and Cassia starts to understand Ky. She realizes that she is in love with him, and is exploring the idea of rebelling.

    2) It makes me angry that Cassia isn’t telling Xander about her feelings for Ky because he has done nothing but help her and they have been best friends for years, so he has a right to know.

    3) Cassia is much more rebellious in the middle of the book. After the officials took the artifacts from everyone, and she learns more of what happened to Ky’s parents, she is starting to dislike the life she lives in. Also, she wants to rebel because she likes Ky but can’t be with him because of the match system. “It’s our Government and their classification system and all their systems that are wrong. Including the Match System.” (Condie 220). This shows how Cassia is frustrated with the government and she’s starting to understand how society really works. Her motivation for wanting to rebel is Ky, because without him, she would have no reason to rebel.

    4) If I was Cassia, I would not rebel, but I would tell Xander about her feelings for Ky. They’re best friends so he should understand and keep her secret.

    1) To summarize, the government has come across an unknown creature that they think is an alien. This could possibly give them the answers as to why the world as they know it is gradually coming to an end. In the meantime, Trevor and Martin are in the woods as a powerful storm is occurring. A storm with a massive tower of clouds that keep getting worse and worse by the minute.

    2) The character, General Samson, said that he did not want to die while on his way to a meeting. In a way, I do not like General Samson as a character in this book because to be honest, he only thinks about himself instead of the lives of the American citizens. When the doctor was going through the alien’s body parts, General Samson only had one thing on his mind. Whether the alien will explode at any point and kill him. It wasn’t what precautionary steps the American citizens should take to ensure their safety. No, it was all about whether he would live to see the next day. This bothers me because he is a General for the United States of America’s government and his priority should be the people, not himself. Truth be told, General Samson is the most selfish person I’ve read about so far in this book.

    3) During the book, the character General Samson is motivated by the doctor because Samson has come up with a plan to try and prevent the aliens from taking over Earth. The doctor is the only person with the knowledge of how to make the plan a success. However, his plan requires more humans which is getting impossible to retrieve for the plan because they are dying at a rapid rate. “This whole operation is in danger of failing, and if it does, not even your father will be able to save you. We still don’t have enough slaves and we can’t get the personnel in to control the ones we do have because the lenses are old and barely functional. We’re losing 20,000 humans a minute and we need another billion in four days.” (Strieber 182). Also, what I think is also motivating General Samson to have this plan be successful is the fact that the human race is losing 20,000 humans a minute. That is quite an enormous number of lives being taken by supposed “aliens” invading Earth. Hopefully, the doctor’s determination and General Samson’s focus will be enough to stop the human race from depleting rapidly.

    4) If I was the character General Samson in this book, I certainly would not have lied to Echidna about saying the agent was dead because that is a lie. Echidna asked General Samson, “So the agent is definitely no longer a problem?” By agent, Echidna meant Martin Winters. General Samson supposedly knew that the only acceptable answer to Echidna’s question would be yes because if Samson said no to Echidna, it could bring Samson torture or nevertheless death. However, I wouldn’t lie to an important security staff member like Echidna about Martin Winters being dead to save my life. A lie is a lie. No matter how small or big the lie may be. Lying is not an acceptable answer either way you go about this situation.

    1) Ember and Chase have to escape the carrier’s house because government soldiers followed the carrier there and they are in danger, so they run into the woods. After trekking through the woods for a few days they approach a road where a rancher and thief are in a fight; Chase saves the rancher and the rancher repays him by letting him stay the night and offering Chase and Ember a ride in the morning, even though Chase and Ember figure out that the rancher called the FBR on them and have to try to escape before they are caught.
    2) I liked when Chase risked his life by hopping out of the bush where the rancher and gunman were fighting; Chase exposed himself to the gunman so the gunman would not shoot aimlessly into the woods and possibly hit the rancher’s child or Ember.
    3) Ember is starting to fall back in love with Chase. She cares about him and enjoys being around him. “‘That’s nice,’ I said [Ember is speaking]. ‘What?’[asks Chase]. ‘Your laugh. I haven’t heard it in, well a year,’” (Simmons 208). Ember is noticing all the little things she used to like about him when they were dating. The more time Ember spends with Chase the more she falls in love with him. Ember’s new, but old love is helping her to forget about her mother who could possibly be in trouble with the FBR.
    4) As Ember is escaping from the rancher’s house and Chase is distracting the rancher on the inside so she can get away, she notices the FBR soldiers entering the house, in order to help Chase get away she flips the generator switch off. If I was Ember I would have been really nervous about the FBR soldiers arresting Chase and I think I too would turn the generator off so all the lights would go out in the house and the soldiers couldn’t see Chase getting away.

    1. So far the narrator and his brother are trying to flee the city through any means possible. Using horses and also traveling by boat
    2. The narrator was very helpful to these two women when chaos broke out. Someone was trying to steal their carriage and the narrator got them away. I like what he did because he helped two helpless people and thought of others before himself.
    3. In the middle of the book the narrator and his brother are sticking together and are helping the people they can. They saw two women in trouble and helped them and now are traveling with them. He said “So quite unexpectedly my brother and I found ourselves injured and in pain driving along an unknown lane with these two women,”(Wells 89). They are trying to help find the women’s brothers while also trying to save themselves and go somewhere safe. These women motivate them because they feel they are responsible for them and all there actions are for the lives of those women.
    4. If I were the narrator because if I were that person in trouble I would really hope someone would help me. It would just be the right thing to do and something any good citizen would do.

    1. Tris got ranked first for stage 2, which although seems great, comes along with bad things. Peter, Drew, and her former friend Al tried to throw her over the chasm to her death, and Al ended up committing suicide.
    2. Tris left during Al’s funeral because she didn't like the fake respect Eric was attempting to give, and how they were calling what he did brave. When she was walking down a hallway, Four found her. “‘What are you doing here?’ I ask. ‘Shouldn't you be paying your respects?’ I say it like it tastes bad and I have to spit it out. ‘Shouldn't you?’ He says. He steps towards me, and I see his eyes again. They look black in this light. ‘Can’t pay respect when you don't have any,’ I reply,” (Roth 309). This shocked me because Tris seems more genuine, not as harsh as this. However, I still like her because what Al did to her was wrong, and she has a right to be mad at him and what he did.
    3. Tris has become more strong and Dauntless since the beginning of the book. When she came up with a plan for capture the flag that led her team to victory, more Dauntless born initiates wanted to be her friend. Since that night, Tris impressively improved her skills and her rank moved up in stage 1, and was ranked first in stage 2. She was motivated by the fact that she wanted this life to be hers, and if she didn't work for it, she would live factionless. “If my entire life is like this, loud laughter and bold action and the kind of exhaustion you feel after a hard but satisfying day, I will be content. As Uriah scrapes his tongue with his fingertips, I realize that all I have to do is get through initiation, and that life will be mine,” (Roth 156).
    4. If I were Tris, I don’t think I would be able to stay as calm as her. She is ignoring Molly’s rude remarks and pretending to be weak to protect herself, but if I were in her shoes I wouldn't want to seem weaker than I already was. Dauntless is supposed to be for the brave and strong, not the weak. Tris is still considered a stiff and one of the weaker initiates, and along with all of the different things Peter, Molly, and Drew do to make Tris mad, I don’t think I would be able to handle it.

    2. Thomas is now starting to realize that he is an important person in the Glade sent by the creators and that he’s going to change a lot of things in it. The one thing I liked about Thomas was that he didn’t insult or made fun of anyone during the Gathering, unlike Gally, who kept criticizing Thomas.
    3. In this section of the book, Thomas is really started to get serious about the Maze and he starts to stop ask questions and help Newt and Minho out, since Alby is disable to do anything right now. I think the girl mostly motivated him to think about who he actually was and why he’s been sent to the Glade. “ What are they going to do with me? he thought. Those things she said. Something about me and her doing this to them. To us. What did they mean?” (Dashner 187) Thomas is getting worried about the situations going on in the Glade and he’s starting to think that he has to find out a way for the Gladers to make it out of the maze.
    4. If I was in Thomas’ shoes, I wouldn’t believe the what the girl said about me because after all she was also sent with her memory washed out and it doesn’t mean that whatever she said is the truth.

After Equality 7-2521 fled to the forest he remembers everything about meeting with the scholars about the lightbulb. The only reason Equality 7-2521 went to share that information was because e generally thought that it would be helpful for the society. While in the forest Equality 7-2521 starts to laugh because he has never felt so free in his life. Eventhough he is damned from the society he shrugs it off his shoulders because he doesn’t care about what he left behind. I am proud of Equality 7-2521 because he keeps talking about how little he cares about the things he left behind. Equality 7-2521’s foil is the higher ranking people who tell him to get out of their society because he brought electricity into it and he isn’t supposed to be smart. This honestly brings the best out of Equality 7-2521 because he only shrugs off their hate and doesn’t give what they said about him a second thought. “And we heard suddenly that we were laughing, laughing aloud, laughing as if their were no power left in us save laughter,’ (Rand 79). If I were Equality 7-2521 I would be so happy to be away from all of society’s judgement. I would be laughing as well about all the stupid things my haters said to me.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
    1. Katniss and her newfound ally Rue survive together and do all they can to avoid contact with the deadly careers who are the most powerful contestants however, one catches Rue and kills her. After that, Katniss must survive on her own and is doing so until a twist is added to the game saying that there may be two victors if they are from the same district so Katniss yells out to Peeta.
    2. I still have high respect for Katniss, because she does her best to survive without killing and allies with Rue who is the youngest and weakest competitor. One thing Katniss did that was amazing was when Rue died; she sang to her like the mockingbirds and covered her with flowers.
    3. Katniss has changed a lot since the beginning of the book and is now a more strong independent character, still with a big heart. Katniss is very strong and intelligent, this is shown when she takes down the careers, the strongest in the games, by cutting down a tracker jacker nest which caused them to hallucinate and die. Katniss continued to show her strength by hiding from people and escaping flames with Rue. In this section, Katniss is motivated by Peeta because she is very determined to find him. “The news sinks in. Two tributes can win this year. If they’re from the same district. Both can live. Both of us can live. Before I can stop myself, I call out Peetas name (Collins 285). This shows how Katniss is desperate to find Peeta and is motivated to win because of him.
    4. If I were Katniss, I would probably not have blown up the careers food because they are extremely dangerous and I know I am not clever or sneaky enough to do that without being caught.

    1. Winston gets a note passed to him by a girl at work that says I love you. Winston isn’t sure whether or not to believe her but they end up getting together and making small attempts at rebelling against the party.
    2. Winston and Julia, the girl he likes, go to the country and they spend time together and talk about little ways they rebel against the Party. I think that the way they rebel is a little odd, but I still respect him for trying.
    3. Winston is no longer curious about rebelling against the Party, but is rebelling against them. Winston and the girl have intercourse as a form of rebellion. Julia was a member of the Anti-sex-league but says she has had sex many times. I think that she might be a spy and is just fooling Winston because he seems very easy to manipulate. When she gave him the note saying, “I love you,” he was suspicious at first but quickly fell under her spell.
    4. If I was Winston I would not be rebelling the way he is, I would try to become a Prole and leave their society.

    1. The curate and the narrator head to London without knowing they are under a major attack. The narrator’s brother gets out of London and finds two women that he stays with. The narrator is now stuck in a house with a tripod right outside of his house
    2. The main character began to pray to god and I find this odd considering how he is not a religious man, he must be extremely desperate.
    3. “We are safe here….safe here,” This is what the narrator said when he was hiding in the abandoned house. The house is cramped and rundown, nobody would look forward to living in a place like this. Normally he would be looking for a more comfortable situation but because this is safe it is currently the best option. After he has seen what the tripods and the black poison smoke are capable of he is afraid and just wants to live. The narrator is desperate for survival because he knows what the aliens can do.
    4. I think the narrator made a great choice by hiding out in the abandoned house. In the situation that he is in he should have one instinct……survival. Clearly this is what he is aiming for by staying in that wretched house.

    The Scorch Trials

In The Scorch Trials, by James Dashner, Thomas and Brenda are captured by cranks but are saved when Minho and the gladers come to help. While Thomas and the gladers are trying to escape, Thomas is shot. Thomas condition worsens when his shoulder get infected. He is saved when WICKED comes and gives himself medicine to disinfect his shoulder. After returning from WICKED, Tersea has contacted Thomas and warns him that bad things are going to happen tomorrow.
In this section Thomas was kind of the damsel in distress, because he gets captured, shot and warned that something terrible is going to happen to him tomorrow. I thought this was interesting because we don't really see Thomas as the leader but someone who's in a position where he can't really do anything and has to hope for the best, but he's also not being a coward and freaking out about his situation.
Throughout the book Thomas is beginning to become a really good leader and someone for the gladers to look up to. When in the beginning he didn't really want to be the leader and happily gave that position to Minho, but now he is starting to realize that he has a bigger part in the trials than any other gladers and that he is the real leader. "We watched you all night! Then this morning we saw your reaction to the sign through the window figured you had to be the famous Thomas!" This quotes is saying that there is something more important about Thomas and who he is and how he fits into the trial and that's kind of what's motivating him to continue, to figure out why he is so important and why he is the real leader.
If I was in Thomas shoes I would be dramatized. With all the stuff that he has witnessed and experienced it can really make a person go crazy. But Thomas handles himself so well and even if he wasn't he doesn't really show that in his action or emotions he stays strong and makes sure to get his friends and himself to safety.

    1) Thomas starts his training as a runner with Minho and the sky turns gray and the sun disappears. Then Thomas and Minho find a weird spot off the cliff where anything thrown into it disappears.
    2) Minho proposed an idea to Newt and Alby that Thomas and him go into the maze for the night because the doors weren't closing. When Thomas agreed I thought that he was brave for being willing to go into the maze again after he had seen the grievers and almost died.
    3) Thomas was curious in the middle of the book and wanted to help the Gladers get out of the Maze. “Although it scared him to death, exploring the Maze-really exploring it-was something he’d wanted to do from the first time he’d learned about it (Dashner 249).” Thomas was motivated by wanting to know what was in the maze and what it was like throughout it.
    4) If I had been Thomas when they saw the griever disappear and not fall to its death after it jumped off the cliff, I would also have wanted to try to find if other things disappeared when thrown off of it because it would annoy me if I didn't know how or why the grievers were disappearing.

Blog #4 – Pretties by Scott Westerfeld pgs. 172-230
    1) Tally, Zane, and the rest of the Crims are planning on running away from Prettyville into the Rusty Ruins forever. They all want to be adventurous and not live with rules, but first, Tally and Zane need to get their tracking bracelets off so the government can't track them down. So Tally got the idea of getting two pairs of heat resistant gloves, get in a hot air balloon, and heat up the bracelets from the flame in the hot air balloon to expand the bracelets and slide them off. That way they can also get to the Rusty Ruins faster. It was risky, but it's what they wanted.
    2) I was surprised when Tally didn’t take up on Zane’s offer of smashing the tracking bracelets off because she is a rebel and likes to take risks so I for sure thought that she would.
    3) Throughout the whole book so far, Tally has been adventurous and brave. The only difference from now and the beginning is that Tally doesn’t care about being a Crim anymore and she doesn’t care so much about the people that aren’t into doing the same things as her. For example, Peris. Peris didn’t want to jump off out of the hot air balloon into the Rusty Ruins and say goodbye to Prettyville forever because he liked being a Pretty. He didn’t want to change the way he lives. Tally tries to get him to go but then gives up after one try. “He grabbed her hand. ‘You could die! I don’t want to lose you…’
    ‘You already have,’ she said.”
I found this to be a major change in her because she and Peris always said that they were going to be best friends forever, but now because Peris doesn’t join her in living in the Rusty Ruins, she decides to not care about him anymore. What motivates Tally to jump off the air balloon (which almost killed her) was finding David. After receiving the letter and cure that Croy brought to her for him, she’s been very anxious to find him so she, along with the other Crims, can live with him out in the wild and find out information about her and the cure.
    4) If I were put in Peris’s shoes, I would have jumped with all of my friends off into the Rusty Ruins because now he has none of his best friends to live the rest of his life with. I would rather live a life with all my best friends in a place I’d rather not be, than be in an environment that I like with none of my best friends.

    Uglies by Scott Westerfeld
In this section of the Uglies Tally becomes closer with Shay’s friend David she learns that he was born in the Smoke, his parents were the ones who began the Smoke, and they were able to reverse the curse. When David takes Tally to meet his parents she learns the truth about the pretty surgery, in the middle of the night on their way back to the camp Tally decides to throw the pendant given to her by special circumstances in the fire, to Tally’s surprise the next morning she wakes to chaos realizing that special circumstances had arrived. I was really glad that Tally decided to destroy the pendant for all the people who felt at home there and because she found out the truth about what the pretty surgery was really about, for this my opinion of Tally has now changed and I now like her. In the middle of the book Tally was unsure of what she should do either become pretty and take away the home of everyone in the Smoke or remain ugly and live in the Smoke for the rest of her life. However once she finds out that the pretty surgery is meant to change the way people think and not just how they look she decides she doesn’t want to become pretty anymore. “…she might remain ugly for life…She opened her hand and threw the necklace into the center of the fire,”(Westerfeld 267). Tally came to grips with the fact that it was better for her and everyone in the Smoke that she destroy the pendant. Tally was motivated to do this because of the truth about what being pretty was all about, she realized that the Smoke was actually a home for many people, and also because she was falling for David. If I were Tally I would have taken the pendant far away from the Smoke and destroyed it there, she underestimated special circumstances and now she and everyone else will pay for her fatal mistake.

    1) Tris begins going through stage two in initiation in which she goes through a simulation of her fears. She does well and gets ranked first since she is a Divergent which is now known by Four but her outstanding performance causes Peter, Drew, and Al to become jealous and attempt to kill her.
    2) Tris is beginning to really shine in her performance which is not a good thing, especially in the simulations in which she can be found to be Divergent. I’m kind of hoping that she is not found to be Divergent and killed although it is quite obvious because of her outstanding performance of two minutes and forty-five seconds in the simulations.
    3) Tris is quite happy being in Dauntless and enjoys the company of new friends from the Dauntless born initiates. It all starts when Uriah invites her to an initiation ritual. She then proves herself brave here and is seen higher than a “Stiff” now. She is also determined to continue doing well to be able to stay with the Dauntless. After the little ritual, “It’s the first time I have been really eager to be one of them. Which means I have to survive the next stage of initiation,” (Roth 226). She is also eager to find out more about what “Divergent” means. She wonders about how Four knows she is Divergent. She even goes back to Tori to ask more questions. One night she goes out to take a drink after everyone is asleep and she hears Eric and another voice talking about finding Divergents and she tries to listen in.
    4) Al assists Peter and Drew in killing Tris which really shocks me. If I were Al I wouldn’t have helped them because Tris has helped him a lot, especially when she took his spot when Four was going to throw knives at him.

Katniss has just allied another competitor named Rue. The remaining competitors are mostly career tributes and are the strongest. Katniss and Rue stick together until a career kills her. Then Katniss needs to find Peeta because the Games have changed and both tributes from the same district can win.
My respect for Katniss is very high. She does whatever she needs to do to win. Katniss also understands the brutality of the Games and gives Rue a tribute when she dies by covering her with flowers and singing.
Since the beginning of the book Katniss has changed a lot. She is opening up more to people and becoming more independent. I think she has become stronger too. When the career killed Rue, Katniss didn't think twice about killing him. Katniss still will do anything it takes to get back to her home and her family and friends. Even if that means finding Peeta to have a better chance at surviving, even though he betrayed her and teamed up with Careers in the beginning. “The news sinks in. Two tributes can win this year. If they’re from the same district. Both can live. Both of us can live. Before I can stop myself, I call out Peetas name (Collins 285).

    2. I don’t like how the main character keeps breaking laws, however, the laws that are in this society are very frustrating for my main character; he built an electricity box, and the Scholars wanted it to be destroyed because it shows that Street Sweepers are smarter than the Scholars. I like how the main character took the box before the Scholars destroyed it because he was proud of it no matter what the Scholars said.
    3. The main character is even more disobedient and risky in the middle of the book. The main character ran away from the Council of Scholars after breaking a law, and they ran away into a forbidden place, the Uncharted Forest. The main character did this all for the box of electricity they had created because they love that box, and they didn’t want it to be destroyed for a reason they thought was ridiculous. “Only the glass box in our arms is like a living heart that gives us strength,” (Rand 76). The box is something they created, something they are proud of, and they want to know more about it, before it is destroyed, or before they are killed for their criminal actions.
    4. If I were the character, I would try to leave to a place where the society is different, if that is possible. I would do this because if they go back to their society, they might be killed for their knowledge and their actions, and the society has many restrictions that Equality 7-2521 don’t like, so it might be better in the other place.

The Kill Order by James Dashner

This section starts with Mark and Alec being split up from the rest of the group and confusion that followed. Mark and Alec then discover the underground bunker that had sent out to ship from their original attack. One key thing that Mark did in this section was determine where the rest of their group was. Mark thought about what each of them would have done in this situation and used that to predict their course of action. This allowed Mark and Alec to begin searching for signs of the others and not get led in the wrong direction. I like Mark because he reasons through everything before deciding what to do. During the book, Mark is still motivated by his friends. Mark is constantly doing everything possible in order to keep his friends safe. After they went missing, the first thing that he wanted to do was to go find them, no other thoughts or plans besides to track them down. “Mark had to push down his panic again. ‘So what do we do? Go back and hide or go after them?’”(Dashner 150) Mark wants to help, but he isn’t diving into situations without fully understanding the circumstances. If I was in Mark’s position, I would probably go after them and try to save them. I would do this to try to hold on the only sense of community in what is left of the world.

I did not like it when Katniss had the tantrum when the announcement was made because it was very cowardly which is out of character for her but I still like her. In the middle of the book Katniss only wants to protect Peeta. When the announcement is made she makes Haymitch promise to volunteer if Peeta was chosen. She also says, “If it is Peeta and me in the Games, this time we try to keep him alive,” (Collins). This shows she cares more about her friends than herself. Here they learn the Jeanine wants to collect all Divergent and count all the people who weren't shot with the new simulation serum that this time causes 3 people to almost jump of the roof. After witnessing this event Tris decided that she can't let anyone else die so she turns herself in to Erudite where she will be tested for what makes her different and then executed. The fact that Tris went to the roof and tried to save all three who were jumping off the roof , shows how brave she is. She didn't know what the simulation was but she worked under the pressure and time crunch that she was in.During the middle of this book Tris hasn't changed too much but she you can see her becoming more of a risk taker. She puts her life i danger more often and is selfless even more now that the new simulation is doing this to people. Her motivation hasn't really changed and she still uses her parents death and Tobias to motivate her along with the thought that if she turns herself in less people will die."Hope and pray and wish that no one else dies because of my selfishness," (Roth 319) Tris said about her second guessing turning herself in. She feels that if anyone is to turn themselves in it should be her otherwise she's a coward who is guilty of killing yet another person. If i was in this book i would never be able to be as selfless as Tris is right now. Turning yourself in to the cruelest leader of all the factions despite the fact that you know you are going to die, is something that takes great bravery, something i would never be able to have;.

Sam especially wants to protect Astrid and her brother Little Pete because he likes Astrid and doesn't want her to get hurt. In the book it says, "The tall, dagger-sharp prow ran up over the left half of the Boston Whalers," (Grant 300). 36. In this section, Animal farm has become a nation wide known issue. other farm owners have tried to shut down animal farm but attempts have been unsuccessful due to Animal Farm being so prepared. At this point, Napoleon is an absolute worry freak over everything, no one can blame him for doing so because if they are in prepared 1 day that can determine the fate of their entire animal farm. This motivates Napoleon (and of course the other animals to become even closer together so that they can remain the superior race. Napoleon decides to make a full out plan of action as to what will happen in just about any scenario you could thin about. He makes sure that each an every animal knows exactly what to do an that they are doing it perfectly. As for him, if a tragedy were to happen he would need to be the monitor not physically doing any work but making sure everything is running smoothly. On page 56 Napoleon states, " We will not fail, we cannot fail, and we must have a plan sought out to ensure success." This shows Napoleon taking action in a good way for a benefit of everyone all together. I like Napoleon in this chapter a lot because he did not make any corrupt decisions or ignorant decisions, he really was l out for his team. During this chapter, Napoleon was put in a rough situation and when out in that situation he thought about the farm as a whole not just himself. He thought about everyone. During this time, you can see that when people are put in threatening situations they will turn to act For the team, which is reflectant upon Napoleon in this chapter. If I was in Napoleons shoes in this chapter, I would keep making team decisions and ensure that everyone I'm Animal Farm is doing well. Just as Napoleon has been doing so.

The rebels go to District 2 and flush out all the Capitol workers in the headquarters (the Nut). Rebels start planning to attack the Capitol and Katniss has to start training in order for her to be in the attack. One thing I was surprised Katniss did was when she was giving a speech and a person working in the Nut pointed a gun at her, she didn't kill him which I was surprised because she usually would kill a person threatening her life. Katniss is becoming even tougher than she already is. She is fighting through injuries and rough times, but also becoming smarter and more mature. Katniss was shot but shortly after, she began training hard even though her spleen hasn't healed from the bullet wound. Katniss finally is starting to comprehend the importance of discipline and how to take orders. "And suddenly, I realize what the military will think my biggest weakness is. From my first moment in the Games, when I ran for that orange backpack, to the firefight in 8, to my impulsive race across square in 2. I cannot take orders,"(Collins 249). Lots of things are motivating Katniss to be tougher than ever. One thing that is driving her to her limits is the want to kill President Snow. Katniss made a promise to herself and Johanna Mason to kill President Snow and she will stick to her words. Also, the revenge to the Capitol because they tortured Peeta so much that he isn't ever going to back to what he was. If I were Katniss, I would've also been very tough and pushed through training even with a bruised spleen and broken ribs even though it caused lots of pain. Katniss and I have a connection of facing problems head on no matter the difficulty.

He leaps across some rooftops and draws along the outside patrols as the others steal grenades and blow up the ammunition depot. As Day is headed toward the explosion as planned, he finds another child that calls out for help. Day discovers that he is being used as a bioweapon just like his brother Eden. He tries to free him, but fails and has to run away. When the day of the Elector’s assassination arrives, June stages a collapse hoping to draw the convoy onto another route, but the ex-commander DeSoto tells the drivers to continue as planned. When Day hears about this, he realizes that June has made her move and failed. When the cars arrive Day jumps in front and stops them in the middle of the ambush. He warns the elector and runs off with June to a Patriot tunnel leading to the colonies. Someone unexpected saved them: Kaede.
    2. I like how Day trusted June and defied his hatred toward the Republic and his love for the Patriots and saved the Elector. I like him because if you gain his trust he doesn’t question you. He does what is right in his heart.
    3. In the Middle of the book, Day is motivated by June and Tess. “I feel a sudden compulsion to chase her, to make sure she’s safe – and then I remember the last thing she said to me.” And “You know, maybe Tess was right about you… You might have changed a little over the last few weeks, but deep down, you’re still a Republic soldier. Through and through.” Day is struggling to comprehend that June made him stop the assassination because of some “lies” she heard from the elector. He thinks that even though she is very logical, she messed up. Also he is thinking more and more about Tess and her thoughts about June.
    4. If I were Day, I would take Tess’s advice about June and leave her because she is obviously loyal to the Republic no matter how hard she tries not to be.

In this section of the book, Basil and Thalia create a lot of crimes. They stole motorcycles and crashed a lot of things. Thalia and Basil were both hurt so they went to a walk in clinic to get help and Thalia realized that it was funded by her grandpa. Basil shows Thalia his old house and his mom who is mean and they both start a riot

I was surprised when Thalia showed what she looked like and where she was on the camera because then the cops can come and get her but what she did was very affective. I love this main character because she goes against her society.

In the middle of the book Thalia is a lot more educated and confident than what she was when she started. She is taking a lot more risk now than what she did before. The thing that motivated my character were the riots that were starting in the inner loop and how they were following what she said. Also that the person who she was fighting for died. “ I try to train my camera on the violence in front of me, but my hands shake and my voice quivers with hate as I describe the scene,” Thalia is showing the riot that she has started and is hoping to start more (Swain 242).
If i were in her shoes i would not have showed the world were i was because then the cops could follow me and know where i am so then I would get caught. I do not think it was very smart of her to do that.

1.) So far Tris has gone through two sets of initiation, being divergent they go beyond easy. Four and others begin to truly notice her differences, and Peter, Drew, and Al attempt to kill her.
2.) Others are starting to see Tris for her strengths. Shes beginning to show the possibility that she may be diveregent. This is dangerous for Tris because the others see her as a threat, and this leads Peter, Drew, and Al to attempt to kill her.
3.) So far in the book Tris is very brave but also a little reserved. I know why my father said the Dauntless were a pack of madmen. He didn’t--couldn’t--understand the kind of camaraderie that forms only after you’ve all risked your lives together," (Ross 223) Tris is beginning to understand Divergent, and what it means to be in this faction. She understands further more than what others might.
4.) If I was Tris I would not have let Al get away with attacking me, personally. When Four threw the knives at Al, Tris spoke up and had the means to take his place and she did get cut up a bit. So I would have told Al off.

The Maze Runner by James Dashner (Blog Post 4)
    1. Thomas is now a runner and the girl has woken up from her coma. However the sky has turned grey and the walls have remained open for the night.
    2. I was surprised that Thomas was able to talk back to the girls telepathically because I thought just the girl had this ability.
    3. During the middle of the book Thomas is very motivated. Thomas wants to get out of the maze as soon as possible because the doors are stuck open, supplies stops coming, and the sun is gone. Also my character is motivated to get back to his old life because he wants to know why he was sent to the maze and see what the real world is like. Not to mention Thomas wants to get out because, "'Not much here sounds very good. Catastrophe. Killzone. Experiment,'" (Dashner 223).
    4. If I were Thomas I would be terrified because the walls are still open and it's night time. This means that the grievers will be able to to get into the glade so everyone has hid in the homestead.

    1) In this section of the book, Tally figures out more and more about the Smoke as she meets David’s parents. They tell her that the operation created lesions in people’s brains and so when you became pretty it did not just change the way you look, it changed the way you think. When she found this out she threw the pendant that could send signals to Special Circumstances in a fire and by the next day they invaded the Smoke and held many people. Tally however got away and is with David, now they are figuring out how they are going to save the rest of the Smokies.
    2) When Tally threw away the heart pendant it made me proud because it revealed that she had changed her way of thinking. She didn’t think like someone from the city, she wanted to stay in the Smoke and be ugly forever. I was proud of Tally because she has grown as a character and now she really understands the society.
    3) When Tally is up on the building she sees the hover boards and one of the specials tells her repeatedly not to touch the hover boards. She gets annoyed with the Special and activates the hover board which causes the Special to fall off of the building. Tally would never purposely try to hurt someone but the Special kept on pestering her about the hover boards. It brought out the negative qualities in Tally.
    4) If I were in Tally’s shoes I wouldn’t wait a minute. I would go back to the city and get the friends she’s made like Croy and Shay out of there because it is not where they belong. Also, I would tell them the truth after I got them out of the city because they deserve to know why she really came to the Smoke.

  43. 1. They have entered the hunger games and district 1 is the most feared. Kaniss can only trust Pete and Rue right now.
    2. I was surprised when Katniss teamed up with rue this shows that Katniss is a good person because she could have just killed Rue.
    3. In the beginning of the book Katniss is scared but willing to do what she has to for her sister. When she's in the hungar she is so much braver and is kinda calm about being in there she meets people along the way and plays it safe she is not on the attack all the time like district one just trying to kill people. She is a good person even in the hunger games. This surprised me and shows me how much she evolved as a person.
    4. If I was in Katniss shoes I would probably be really scared. I would be scared because it's your life at risk.

    Writing Assignment 4

Currently in the story, Lieutenant Blackburn has declared a programming war between all the houses. Tom and his best friend Vikram are working to defeat their friend Wyatt, who has become a prodigy in coding viruses.
Tom has developed a plan to use Wyatt’s boyfriend Yuri to carry a virus to her. I think Tom was quite cunning to develop a plan like this, however I question Tom’s morales as he is willing to destroy a relationship so he can one-up one of his friends.
During the middle of the book, Tom seemed to become more mature because now he actually respects blackburn and follows his orders. However Tom still retains his ruthless streak which is shown when he goes through extreme means to bring down Wyatt from her spree during the programming war. I think Tom is motivated to become the best in his house so Blackburn will acknowledge him and recommend him to General Marsh for Capital Summit, an annual battle broadcasted to the world between the Americans and India versus the Chinese and Russians. Tom wants to go to Capital Summit so he can meet Medusa, the coveted chinese combatant that has singlehandedly won many battles.
If I were in Tom’s shoes, I would have also liked to go to Capitol Summit to meet Medusa, However I would not have stooped as low as to manipulate one of my friends to get to the top.
