    1. The Golden One followed Equality 7-2521 into the Uncharted Forest after they heard from the whole city that Equality 7-2521 had come to the forest. The Golden One and Equality 7-2521 walked farther into the forest until they saw a house, and they stayed at the house saying they would never leave; Equality 7-2521 believes the house was left from the Unmentionable Times, and that the trees had protected it from time and weather.
    2. I like Equality 7-2521 for running into the forest, so that they can try and find happiness somewhere else, and I think it is smart to stay in the house from the Unmentionable Times because before they had found the house, The Golden One and Equality 7-2521 had been sleeping outside.
    3. Equality 7-2521’s foil is the Golden One. Equality 7-2521 has broken laws for the Golden One, because people aren’t allowed to wander during work time, and especially talk and look at a different gender, and Equality 7-2521 loves the Golden One, so he broke these laws. “But the only things which taught us joy were the power we created in our wings, and the Golden One,” (Rand 86). Equality 7-2521 and the Golden One are in love, so they try to see each other in secret without the government finding out, and they interact in ways that aren’t allowed in their society. For example, Equality 7-2521 and the Golden One aren’t allowed to be in the Uncharted Forest, but they are both there together, and they are staying in a house from the Unmentionable Times, which is even more against the society.
    4. If I were Equality 7-2521, I would still try to get out of the Uncharted Forest, instead of staying at the house because on the other end of the Uncharted Forest there might be a society where they allow people to be themselves, and Equality 7-2521 would like that so much better than their old society.

In this section of Uglies Tally wakes up to the arrival of special circumstances and tried to make a run for it but was captured, Tally was able to trick a man from special circumstances and was able to escape into the mountains where she found David. When they went to check on the Smoke they saw that everything had been burned even David’s parents’ house that was a ways away, Tally and David decided to head to Tally‘s old city to save David’s parents and the rest of the Smokies, at the end of this section they had arrived at the city and were planning a way to get into the special circumstances headquarters. Tally hasn’t come clean to anyone that it’s her fault the Smoke was destroyed which is understandable since no one would ever trust her again, but eventually people will find out and she’ll be in even more trouble, I like Tally however I don’t like that she’s still lying to everyone. Tally’s foil is David because he’s the one that got her to realize that the city and the pretty operation is not what it seems. After Tally learned the truth about her city she and David became a couple, afterward she destroyed the pendant given to her by special circumstances as an act of defiance towards the city and to show her allegiance to the Smoke. David was able to change Tally’s mind by making her realize that the Smoke was a real home for many people and once he told her that he was born there it was no longer just a home for runaways it was a home for families too. The two interact in ways Uglies normally would not but being in the Smoke rules are very different, the only problem with the way they interact is it causes tension between David, Tally, and their friend Shay who likes David. If Tally had never gotten to know David then she would have never even considered being a Smokie which is why David is her foil. If I were Tally I would have told David that special circumstances sent her but she decided not to help them which is why she destroyed the pendant not knowing it would activate, waiting longer to tell the truth will only make it harder to tell and harder for people to forgive her.

    Delirium by Lauren Oliver
In this section, Lena’s aunt schedules a meeting with Brian Scharff, Lena’s pair at the same time she was supposed to meet Alex at 37 Brooks; instead Lena meets Alex at the house in the night and Lena talks about her mom more. Alex is surprised and he says that Lena’s mom may be alive so he takes her to the Crypts, a prison for criminals with deliria, but they discovered that she escaped out of a tunnel that she carved using the word ‘love’. When Lena was describing her mother’s necklace and Alex says that he can take Lena to see her, it is understandable that Lena is nervous. She hasn’t seen her mother in a long time and the last time Lena saw her mother, she was going insane because of the disease. Hana and Alex are Lena’s foil, but Alex had more of an impact on Lena. Hana got Lena to go to her first party and Alex changed Lena from there; Alex changed Lena’s mind about amor deliria nervosa, love, and Lena’s entire life changed. Before Lena was so against love but when she met Brian, she realised she didn’t like him. Lena thinks, “The problem is that he isn’t Alex,” (Oliver 315). Lena tells Alex that she can’t live without him and she needs him, something she never thought that she would say. If I was Lena, I would go to the Wilds with Alex because if I wanted to be with him that bad, then I’d have to leave some things behind; sometimes happiness comes with sacrifices. Lena needs to figure out what means more to her and how much she is ready to give up for love.

    1) Ember and Chase met up with Sean who joined the resistance and Chase was offered position with them, but he declined and was forced to tell Ember what happened to her mother. After Ember knows that her mother is dead, she was delusional and ends up getting caught by the FBR who take her to a prison facility where she was forced to work, however she found a way to escape.
    2) I disliked when Sean napped Ember from the crowd and away from Chase, there were better ways to get her attention and bring her to the resistance.
    3) Chase is most certainly Ember’s foil because around Chase, Ember is more vulnerable emotionally and she is indecisive. Chase protects Ember because he still loves her. This irritates Ember because she believes she can handle herself and she does not need anyone else’s help. In this section of the book, Chase reveals his love for her and Ember acknowledges her love for him. Ember tries to resist his love, which gets her into trouble and that is when she realizes that she does love him and she wants to be with him.
    4) If I was Ember I would have suspected Lori’s death because Chase would always change the direction of the conversation when Ember talked about her mother. Chase never made any reference to where her mother is or how she got away, he only told Ember that she loved her and that they needed to be safe; therefore I wouldn’t have been so surprised when Chase revealed Lori’s death.

    1. Tris and Four finally confess their feelings for one another, and Four prefers to go by Tobias, his real name. Tris takes her final test to become Dauntless, which is a simulation of all of her fears.
    2. I was surprised when Tris went to Erudite, the faction her brother now belongs to. I was surprised she did this because it is against the rules to visit other factions. Tris was also visiting her brother, which goes against the saying “faction before blood.” This is looked as a betrayal towards your faction. I still like Tris because she continues to be independent and brave, regardless of what rules are in place.
    3. Four, or otherwise known as Tobias, makes Tris very nervous. When she is around him, she is always aware and nervous of what will happen between them. Tris and Tobias like each other, but the selflessness of Abnegation caused them both never to see affection between couples. Now that they are in a relationship, Tris gets nervous of all of the things she doesn't know, and learned not to even think about. This impacts Tris because she is supposed to be in a relationship with Tobias, which can be a bit difficult if she is somewhat afraid of him. This also impacts her because he appears in her fear landscape for her final test to finally become Dauntless.
    4. If I were Tris, I would be extremely nervous when Eric placed a tracker into her neck after the fear landscape test. She knows Erudite plans to team up with Dauntless to go against Abnegation in war, and the tracker could mean anything. Although it would have caused trouble, I would refuse to get it placed in my neck until Eric said why this was being done.

    1) The United States of America is at war with what seems to be an alien invasion, otherwise known as souls. General Al North, General Samson, Martin, Trevor, and other military soldiers are in combat trying to save their country. Later on, Wylie realizes that these souls are actually seraphs that he included as a creature in his fantasy alien book that he tried to erase from his laptop.

    2) General Al North was given the order by General Samson to carry out an assassination. My reaction for General Al North was sympathy mainly because he had to massacre the people walking around, including the women. I actually have come to like General Al North because he gives all Americans equality. General Al North did not want to kill the innocent people, but General Samson ordered it. “Yeah, that’s great, disobey a lawful order transmitted to you in person by your commanding officer, who also happened to be the acting commander in chief.” replied General Samson (Strieber 245).

    3) Martin Winter’s foil is surprisingly his son, Trevor. The interaction between these two characters is quite weird in a good way. Martin never knew how talented Trevor was until his knowledge was useful in a dangerous situation. Martin and Trevor worked together to to but two lifeless seraph bodies in the back of the Hummer. Trevor pocketed one of their hand weapons. Martin was clueless on how they work.
“What is this thing?” asked Martin. “
“It’s a seraph weapon,” Trevor said, producing a dark blue box with seraph hieroglyphics on it. “Here’s some ammo.” (Strieber 251).
Who knew that Trevor had more expertise on weaponry than his dad, Martin.

    4) If I was the character Wylie in this book, I would choose a different topic to write a book about because seraphs (creatures) taking over Earth is not a great topic for people to read about. Especially if it contains a lot of chaos and drama like the one Wylie wrote. “The seraph were racing to sink the great human cities and most of the human lands, and raise the ocean floors that would be their new continents. They had only hours left until the fourteen artificial gateways they had constructed around the world opened wide and a billion hungry seraph came swarming through.” (Strieber 269). Honestly, who has an imagination this crazy yet it is very diverse and weird all at the same time?

    1) Thomas discovers the point behind the maze, and why the 'creators' gave it to them. However, Thomas finds that he needs more information, so he decides he needs to go through the Changing, be stung by a Griever and be given a serum.
    2) I think this section showed that Thomas was really smart because he was able to understand the maze. He found a message within the maze, FLOAT, CATCH, BLEED, DEATH, STIFF, and PUSH.
    3) I believe that Thomas' foil character is the one and only girl in the Glade, Theresa. Theresa first meets Thomas through telepathy. She talks to him, saying that they were with the 'creators' and had caused the Glade to be created. Thomas and Theresa have a weird connection, they are able to talk in their heads, even when Theresa woke up from her coma they could telepathically communicate. She made him understand more about his past and why he was there. For example, Theresa is the one who helps him think from a different angle about the Maze, that the Maze was actually a message, not a way to get out of the Glade. Theresa made Thomas stronger and more clever mp by helping him when he was confused and encouraging him to keep pushing forward.
    4) If I were in Thomas' shoes, I probably would be smarter than to get myself stung by a Griever, but that is what Thomas decides to do at the end of this section. Instead of getting stung myself, I would talk with people who had already been through the Changing.

The Special Circumstances found out about The Smoke since Tally threw the pendant in the fire and Dr.Cable was able to recognize if the pendant got damaged. They destroyed everything and captured everyone there except for David and Tally. They managed to escape and are trying to help save Shay and the others who they think are in the Special Circumstance office. I like how Tally took the effort to try and save the other Rusties from the Special Circumstance. She traveled all the way back to New Pretty Town and stole a bungee jacket to get into the office. She also created a few allies with some senior Uglies that wanted to be part of David's group. Tally's foil would have to be David because he brought out the best in her and made her realize she was more than the ugly face she saw herself as. He showed her all the living techniques in The Smoke and told her how important his childhood was like in The Smoke. That totally changed Tally's perspective of how people there were like because she never thought they would have anything to lose in the Special Circumstance found them. He even told her about how Uglies brain starts to change after they get transformed into a Pretty and this made Tally more aware of how their society was like and made her take actions to save them. "'Do you think me and Shay will ever be friends again?' she asked as they hiked towards the river. 'Once you've rescued her from the Specials, I figure she'll forgive you for just about anything.' said David" (Westerfeld 352). David gave Tally confidence and hope which made her want to support the people of The smoke even more. If I were in Tally's position, I would have told David about the Special Circumstance before he betrayed her and left her alone in a dangerous situation. She lead him on way too many times to make him think she was a true Smokey and she knew everything about the Specials because she was smart but the real reason was because she was a spy before and she needs to tell him the truth before he finds out the hard way.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

    1) This section of the book begins with Katniss deciding to go look for Peeta, as they can now win together as allies. Soon enough, Katniss finds Peeta camouflaged into the banks of a stream, and she begins to treat his wounds. When she had dropped the tracker jacker nest on the Career Tributes, Peeta had been with them, so he was stung numerous times. Also, Cato, the tribute from District 2, sliced Peeta's leg open with his sword, causing Peeta to be immobile and sick from infection. Katniss' treatment was not enough for Peeta, as he still had blood poisoning and a dangerous fever. Katniss decided to romance Peeta for the audience, so Haymitch sent her sleeping syrup for her satisfying act. A feast at the Cornucopia had just been announced, so she used the sleeping syrup on Peeta, who refused to let her go. There, the feast held an item much needed by each district, and the District 12 backpack held medicine for Peeta. At the Cornucopia, Katniss encountered Clove, the other tribute from District 2. Clove almost murdered Katniss, but she was saved by Thresh, the tribute from District 11, who had felt he owed Katniss for her protection of Rue. Katniss escaped with the medicine, and she returned to Peeta, continued treating both their wounds, and continued to attempt at survival.
    2) Katniss is still a very likeable character, as she is now risking her life for Peeta, whom she could have left to die. After finding out they could win the games together, she instantly came to his side, and cared for him while he was close to death. Though the romance between them is technically only an act for the people of the Capitol, Katniss still deeply cares for Peeta, even more than she thinks.
    3) In my opinion, Peeta is Katniss' main foil. The two of them originally saw each other as strangers, and were completely opposite when it came to personality. Peeta was known as "the boy with the bread" to Katniss, considering he gave her a loaf of bread when her family was experiencing the worst of times. This brought out Katniss' belief of being responsible for her family's needs, allowing them to survive through her hunting after her father's death. After Katniss volunteered to participate in the Hunger Games, her and Peeta still did not seem to get along. Peeta seemed too nice to Katniss, making her believe he was going to deceive her in the games. Peeta also pretended to be in love with Katniss, causing Katniss to be furious with him. This shows how Katniss does not view many people as trustworthy, and how society has caused her to be extremely paranoid. Finally, when Peeta ensured Katniss' survival in the games by protecting her, Katniss' true courage to return home to her family was shown. Now, she is confident that they can win, even though she is still somewhat confused on whether or not to trust Peeta, but he is definitely not an enemy.
    4) If I were Katniss, I would have also cared for Peeta, as I would not want an ally to die if I knew that they could return home with me. Also, it is much easier to win a competition when part of an alliance, as the contribution of two or more different opinions can affect the outcome of a situation.

Darrow was stabbed by Cassius and left for dead but Mustang found him and nursed him back to health; Mustang and him have now created their own army of warriors and are now conquering Houses rapidly. Darrow is passionate about winning the game and defeating the Proctors who have tried to kill Darrow multiple times now. When one of Darrow’s warriors, Tactus, tried to rape a female in the House, Darrow made Tactus get twenty lashes but then made someone lash Darrow himself, to prove that he will sacrifice for his army; I thought that was brave because most leaders stand by and just dole out punishments not take them with the guilty. Darrow’s foil in the story is Mustang. Mustang brings out the best in Darrow and makes him feel alive since Eo has died. They plan and plot their strategies together and think alike. They both take each other’s opinions into consideration when trying to make plans and control their army. If I were Darrow I don’t know if I would be able to take Tactus’ punishment for myself as well because that’s really hard to hurt yourself with someone who deserves to be hurt.

    1) In this section, the officials warn Cassia what will happen if she develops a relationship with Ky. Also, Cassia finally tells Xander about how she feels for Ky and he is very angry.

    2) I was very happy when Cassia finally told Xander that she loves Ky because now she won’t have to feel as guilty, and he will finally know the truth which he deserves to know.

    3) Ky is definitely Cassia’s foil because before she started talking to him, she never would’ve done things that could get her in trouble. For example, he taught her how to write and they are exchanging poetry that is not part of the 100 poems. Also, the fact that they are in love is completely against society rules because he is not her match. Ky makes Cassia think about things she has never thought of before. His story of how he became an aberration, and what the officials did to his parents’ makes Cassia think about how society gives them no freedom, how one sided the officials are, and what it would be like to rebel against the officials.

    4) If I was in Cassia’s shoes, I would stay with Xander and forget about Ky because Ky has gotten her in a lot of trouble and she’s only known him for a month. Also, she’s known Xander for years and even she knows that they are meant to be together.

Sloane meets a friend, Lacey, but neither of them remember each other because of The Program; and Sloane learns Realm was friends with her current handler, Kevin. James and Sloane become friends again, but don’t remember each other, and everyone forbids them from seeing each other, although neither of them know why. When Sloane showed James the photo of the James and Brady, James didn’t remember anything about it, and he didn’t remember knowing Sloane before The Program. This surprised me because I thought that by showing James the photo, it would have refreshed his memory. I was upset when he didn’t remember, and now there might be no chance of them regaining their memory. James is Sloane’s foil in this book because he makes her act the way she does. When Sloane returned to her school, she was obedient and took her medicine. When James made a frequent appearance, she began to act like him. She liked being rebellious, and she liked to hang out with james, because she was starting to like him. Sloane had a slight feeling that she had known him before, but didn’t remember anything. James causes Sloane to skip class, but it’s not only because of him - she likes to do it. When Sloane’s handler and parents tell her to stay away from James, she gets angry, and still continues to hang out with him. She doesn’t understand why they can’t be friends, and little does she know that it is because it might jog her memory of her past. If I was Sloane, I would continue to see James. I wouldn’t want my parents or the handler telling me what I could and couldn’t do. Sloane liked James, and she didn’t let anything stop her from seeing him.

There are only a few people in the games that are still alive. Katniss is taking care of herself and Peeta because he got stabbed very badly by Cato. Katniss knew that every time she kissed Peeta they would get a gift and even though she doesn’t want to kiss him at all, she does because she knows that Peeta would die if she didn’t. Peeta affects Katniss because he always tries to protect her. Peeta got stabbed for her, he joined the careers, and made sure that she didn’t run to the Cornucopia. Also, Katniss was searching for him because she trusted him and she doesn’t trust many people. He changed her because Katniss doesn’t even like it when someone coughs near her, but she helped Peeta with his gigantic cut in his leg which was a very deep cut and there was puss coming out of it too. If I was Katniss and my friend was dyeing I would do anything to help him even though it would embarrass me.

After getting his books Steve learns the people of Settlers Landing plans for defeating Fort Leonard and rushes back to the barn for Jenny. Steve finds the barn burned and rushes Jenny to a near by abandoned casino, finding out that Settlers Landing hired slave traders to take out Fort Leonard. At the casino Violet visits Steve and tells him that his dad died and Steve didn’t cry. This surprised me because Steve and his Dad were very close, Steve would even sneak back into Settlers Landing to check up on his Dad when he was sick. I like Steve even more because he didn’t cry so that he could stay strong and survive the freezing winter. Although Steve isn’t alone he has Jenny, although at times it seems that Steve is the exact opposite of Jenny. Steve is thoughtful, kind, plans ahead and is practical. On the other hand Jenny is impulsive, rude and rebellious. “but she was that hurricane again, ready to tear through whatever was in her way. How do you fight a force of nature?” (Hirsch 228). Jennys impulsiveness force Steve to act quickly and not plan ahead. This is shown when Jenny sprinted into the slave traders camp and Steve had to help her and improvise. If I was Steve I would not have followed Jenny into the enemy camp because I could be killed or captured. Also if I said I was friendly with Settlers landing the slave traders might turn all the villagers into slaves as well.

    1) In this section of the book, Tally figures out more and more about the Smoke as she meets David’s parents. They tell her that the operation created lesions in people’s brains and so when you became pretty it did not just change the way you look, it changed the way you think. When she found this out she threw the pendant that could send signals to Special Circumstances in a fire and by the next day they invaded the Smoke and held many people. Tally however got away and is with David, now they are figuring out how they are going to save the rest of the Smokies.
    2) When Tally threw away the heart pendant it made me proud because it revealed that she had changed her way of thinking. She didn’t think like someone from the city, she wanted to stay in the Smoke and be ugly forever. I was proud of Tally because she has grown as a character and now she really understands the society.
    3) When Tally is up on the building she sees the hover boards and one of the specials tells her repeatedly not to touch the hover boards. She gets annoyed with the Special and activates the hover board which causes the Special to fall off of the building. Tally would never purposely try to hurt someone but the Special kept on pestering her about the hover boards. It brought out the negative qualities in Tally.
    4) If I were in Tally’s shoes I wouldn’t wait a minute. I would go back to the city and get the friends she’s made like Croy and Shay out of there because it is not where they belong. Also, I would tell them the truth after I got them out of the city because they deserve to know why she really came to the Smoke.

    2. Katniss is happier than ever or she at least appears that way in order to gain the fondness of the audience and one thing she did that surprised me what try to fight with Clove who was one of the strongest girls.
    3. Katniss’s foil is the Capitol because they are the complete opposite of her and bring out her worst. While the Capitol is not a person and is the central government, I would still consider them Katniss’s foil. Katniss grew up in the poorest of all the districts and because of that she resents the Capitol. Also, before the games Katniss was very calm and peaceful but because of the games, she has become a more brutal and scary. The capitol has clearly changed Katniss for the worst and for that reason is her foil.
    4. If I were Katniss, I would not stay and care for Peeta in fear that it would end with me dying because he is too weak to move or do anything and she should know that after she tried to stay with Rue but she was also eventually killed.

    1. The narrator has been stuck inside the very house that the 6th cylinder crashed into. For 15 days he was stuck and at the risk of death by the Martians. Finally when the Martians left he left to find a waste baron without a soul in sight.
    2. The narrator likes to be in charge. A man and him were trapped in a house with limited food. He made sure they saved the food and said how much people can eat. I like this character because he took the problems into his own hands.
    3. The foil for the narrator is all the Martians. They don’t interact face to face but the narrator has been observing the Martians from a distance. The narrator is mostly curious about the Martians and he doesn’t become too scared unless he is in immediate danger. The Martians bring out the narrators true personalities such as being in charge and being curious.
    4. If I were in his shoes I would not do the same thing. He waited the situation out by sitting quietly for 15 days. I would try to escape as soon as possible and get away from the Martians.

2.I was surprised when Thomas went out and got himself stung because he was terrified of the pain of the changing.
3.My characters foil is Gally. Gally has a lot of hatred for Thomas and wants him kicked out of the Glade/dead. The reason for this hatred is when Gally went through the changing he said he saw Thomas and that he was evil. Also we know Gally dislikes Thomas because, “without warning he swung his left hand, forming it into a fist as it came around and crashed into Thomas’s ear,” (Dashner 264).
4.If I were Thomas I wouldn’t have gotten stung because of the pain that comes after it. When other people went through the changing they let out deathly screams that would scared anyone.

This section talks about what Mark and Alec do inside the bunker. Mark and Alec spy on the people who work from their and learn about their goals of wiping out humans and who sent them. One big thing that Mark did was have a flashback to when they escaped the subway system during the tsunami. I liked this flashback because it revealed a lot about how the bonds between the characters began to form. It showed how much trust they all had to have in each other. This made me like Mark more because he has a strong personality and it shows through in his effort to help the others. Mark’s foil is Alec. They generally get along fine, but they have very different opinions about how situations should be treated. Alec tends to focus on more of the physical problems, whereas Mark is more emotionally attached to other people. Alec’s time in the army allowed his to have saved Mark many different times. Despite helping Mark, he also contradicts his opinions. Alec has the goal of survival whereas Mark mainly wants to help his friends. If I were in Marks shoes, I would probably just go along with what Alec wants because I ultimately want to preserve my life.

    Animal Farm

    George Orwell

In this section, the animals have successfully detained humans from the farm. However they have run into some major problems, they are falling short of food due to weather complications. And due to jealousy and no longer feeling comfortable with this while Animal Farm idea, Snowball has decided to sabotage any further advancements the animals make in relation to Animal Farm. Napoleon is furious with Snowball's actions and claims that he can sense Snowballs presence. I do not like Napoleon because he should let Snowball go and do whatever because Snowball knows Animal Farm is essentially unrealistic, and is simply logically thinking and all Napoleon is doing is bashing Snowball for doing so. In this section, Snowball has highlighted Napoleon’s vicious side. With Snowball performing such rebellious events, Napoleon feels the need to threaten Snowball and stop at absolutely nothing to make sure Snowball does not become successful. Without Snowball performing such actions, Napoleon would have absolutely no reason to expose his vicious and threatening side. Napoleon, like anyone else, has a side that does not want to be brought out or else nothing good will come, however if you give no reason for someone like Napoleon to bring out such a side then no problem should occur. If I was in Napoleon's shoes. I would honestly listen to Snowballs reasoning for trying to ruin Animal Farm as it is completely logical, and I would drop Animal Farm before it gets any farther than it has already progressed. Napoleon has no idea the troubles that will await him in the near future if he doesn't begin to realize that the humans ARE stronger and WILL overtake Animal Farm no problem once found.

    1) Tally gets chased by a big group of people because they thought she was an outsider, but once they realized that it was Tally Youngblood (a god), they don’t kill her and bring her back to where they live. Tally meets Andrew Simpson Smith when she arrives and he gives her a tour of the place and tells her a little about himself and how he lives. Since Andrew knows his way around the forest, Tally asks him to bring her to the edge of the world and help her find her friends. So they both leave the next day.
    2) I was glad when Tally asked Andrew to help her find her friends because for a moment I thought she was going to stay at the hunters' place. I thought she was going to give up on finding Zane, Fausto, and the other Crims, but I’m glad she didn’t.
    3) Tally’s foil is Dr. Cable. Ever since Tally has met Dr. Cable, she has messed with Tally. Tally betrayed her friends for Dr. Cable and now Dr. Cable wants more from her. She wants Tally to become a part of the Special Circumstance. Tally doesn’t want anything to do with Dr. Cable because she feels that she has already done enough for her, but no matter how many times Tally tells her to stay away, she keeps showing up in her life. Dr. Cable keeps on trying to get Tally to flip to the Special Circumstances but she just keeps on making Tally’s life more miserable.
    4) If I were put in Tally’s shoes, I wouldn’t have passed the dolls hanging on the edge of the earth. Those dolls are there to stop people from passing that line for a reason but Tally passed the dolls hanging from the trees and weird stuff started happening to her. Her body started to tingle, her eye sight got blurry and all she could hear was buzzing. Good thing Andrew was there to pull her back because if she was alone, she would have died.

    1) Thomas, Teresa, Newt, and Minho figured out that the paps of each day formed a letter, and words. Thomas and Minho stay out in the maze all night again and the grievers ignore them and go towards the homestead to take one person per night.
    2) I was surprised when Thomas tried to get stung by the grievers because he had seen what it does to people and still done it to help the Gladers. I like him because he was doing all he could to help get all the people out even if it caused him a lot of pain.
    3) Chuck was Thomas’ foil because they are friends and Chuck helped welcome Thomas. Thomas promised Chuck that he would bring Chuck home to his family. This makes Thomas work harder to find a way out of the maze and this is Thomas’ main motivation.
    4) When Thomas got stung by a griever on purpose to get memory back to help escape the maze, it was like when Harry Potter went into the woods to sacrifice himself to let his friends live and give them a chance to kill Voldemort.

    Ender’s Game Part Five
Ender is sent to a military officer’s school, where he told to play a game where he commands a fleet also commanded by his old army members. He eventually wins the game by destroying the Bugger’s homeworld, and upon winning he is told that it was not a game, it was real life and that he actually just won the war.
Ender has given up on fighting back in his part. He’s worn out and tired, and just wants to get his life in the I.F. over with so he can go home. When he is told that the game is real life, he doesn’t get mad that they lied to him, he gets mad because he blew up a planet. He never wanted to kill a species.
Ender’s main foil is his older brother, Peter. Peter ends up doing good things in this book for selfish, illogical reasons. Whereas Ender does all the wrong things for all the logical, rational, right reasons. Ender’s entire goal is to never end up like Peter, and the more he wants to, the more he does. Peter hates his brother. He has contempt. He wants to rule the world. But in his attempts to execute his evil plan he does something good by opening the eyes of the people.
By this time I would have given up just like Ender. I would fight internally to not let them get to me, but I would just do as my leader says. I would see no point in fighting.

    The Program by Suzanne Young

    1) In this section, Sloane begins to reconnect with some of her old friends from before the Program though she doesn’t remember them. She is especially interested in her ex boyfriend, James, and despite the fact they don’t remember each other, they still are attracted to each other. At the end of the section, Sloane finds a picture of James, her, and her brother, Brady, that she doesn’t remember taking and begins to wonder how their lives have been connected before.
    2) What surprised me most about the section was how Sloane went back to being rebellious and liking James even though she doesn’t remember anything about her previous life. The Program is designed to eliminate who you were in your life before but Sloane tends to follow her old patterns.
    3) Sloane’s foil is her ex boyfriend, James. James is seen as a troublemaker by almost everyone around him in school and the handlers who monitor him. In the fifth section, James starts to hang around Sloane, causing Sloane to have a plethora of confusing emotions. Sloane doesn’t remember James at all from her previous life so her feelings for him are all that more confusing. James being around Sloane also causes her a lot of problems in school and increased monitoring from handlers and authorities. Sloane is advised by everyone to stay away from James and almost every time Sloane is around James she ends up crying. Their relationship is very confusing to both Sloane and James. They have a hot-then-cold back and forth both in speaking and in how they feel for each other. Despite the fact that Sloane really likes James, he is her foil because of how confused he makes her feel and all the problems he causes her.
    4) Usually, the actions Sloane take are ones I would not take if I were in her situation but I agree with her choice to start hanging out with James again. Even though everyone tells her not to, Sloane goes to James and that I think is very strong of her and in her situation I would try to be with James, too.

    1. The curate has officially gone insane and is trying to eat their entire supply of food without telling he narrator, but when the narrator finds out he keeps a constant eye on him and ends up killing him when he gives away their position to the Martians. The narrator escapes the house and successfully escapes the Martians who are nowhere to be found.
    2. When the narrator killed the curate I was not surprised, it only strengthened my idea that his only thought is survival because the curate was going to get them both killed.
    3. I believe the narrators foil is the Martians who have invaded earth. The narrator’s only desire is to survive, but this is challenging when huge robot aliens are killing every human they see. He is trapped by the aliens and they even invade his hideout in an attempt to kill him and suck his blood. But every time one of the two characters makes a move the other counters it by hiding or forcing them back to where they came. Clearly The Martians and the narrator are not exactly friendly and they will always contradict the others actions.
    4. If I were the narrator I would not leave the house until I have not seen the Martians for at least two days. Everyone knows how smart they are so they might have made it a trap to draw him out.

1.) Four now knows Tris is divergent, and Tris now knows Fours feelings towards her. Not only is Tris coming out of her shell, but she also visits her bother in Erudite after finding out their plan to attack the faction she was born into
2.) I do still like Tris. A reaction to one thing Tris did would be how she thought her way out of trouble, or possibly even losing her life. Instead of passing the final test the easier/divergent way she passed it the dauntless way and truly faced her fears.
3.) I believe Four would be Tris' foil because, he makes her see herself as divergent differently. Four teaches her how to hide her power, for example he works with her so that during the final test she passes it as Dauntless. Instead of thinking it just a dream, she physically finds her way out. He told me once to be brave, and though I have stood still while knives spun toward my face and jumped off a roof, I never thought I would need bravery in the small moments of life. I do," (Ross 373).
4.) If I were Tris, I would not have showed up at Erudite just to confront my brother. This could have gotten her in serious trouble because she is not aloud to visit other factions. This is because in this society, when you enter a new faction you leave family and friends behind.

    1. In the story Sam and his friends free the Coates kids from the concrete around their hands. Then both sides, Sam's side and Caine's side, are preparing to fight. Sam is worried about the fight to come and is afraid of the possibility of him disappearing on his 14th birthday.
    2. Sam gives an encouraging speech to the Coates kids after rescuing them. This makes them more motivated to fight and trust Sam and his friends. I think this makes Sam a good leader and it is very smart of him to comfort them. I like this character because he is nice, a good leader, and smart.
    3. Sam's foil is Caine because he makes Sam do different things then he normally would do. They interact by fighting, arguing, and overall disliking each other. Their relationship includes them clashing over decisions and wanting to be the leader. In the chapters I just read they meet at Coates Academy and Caine is driven away by Sam and his friends after he had attempted to make them prisoners. Caine impacts Sam by making him become a better leader to overcome him and rally the kids to fight Caine. Caine causes Sam to do good things like become a leader, but also bad things like forcing people to fight because he is coming to fight them.
    4. If I were Sam when I was walking home from just escaping Caine I would not be able to give a motivating speech like Sam did. I would be too shocked from having my knee shot and tired from using my powers to fight them off. After all this I would not want to or even think of giving a speech to the kids I just saved.

Almost the whole city heard that Equality 7-2521 took the light box and went to walk away from the city. The golden one follows Equality 7-2521 and catches up with him in the forest. Together, they continue to walk until they reach a house in the woods. They agree that the house is most likely from the unmentionable times and they find manuscriptrs and shirts of all different colors. I think The Golden One following Equality 2-2521 into the forest was both a good and bad idea. Good because she can help to change the scholars opinions about the light box and the unmentionable times. Her choosing to follow him was also ad because if by chance they are found, she will be in trouble also. The Golden One really brings out Equality 7-2521’s opinions because he has broken some laws to see her, and she broke laws to talk to him by the river. If I was either the golden One or Equality 7-2521 I would leave the forest and get back to doing their jobs before they are found. If they leave now they they will not be in as much trouble and could be forgiven for their actions.

While Equality 7-2521 is in the forest he sees the Golden one. She tells him that she came following him into the forest after he asked her how long she had been there. She hugged him and he was very happy because he had never had the kind of attention before in his life. I was very happy for Equality 7-2521 when he got a hug from the golden one because he finally knew what it was like to have genuine happiness. The main characters foil is the Golden one and she brings out the best in him. She is always there to make him feel good about himself when he thought he was alone. She never has anything negative to say to him and she is always genuinely kind and sweet. “We seized their body and we presses our lips to theirs.” If I were Equality 7-2521 I would be so happy to be alone with someone truly cared about. If that were to be the only moment I had with the golden one I would try to hold on to it as tight as I could.

    1) Four and Tris soon come into a relationship and Four protects Tris when Eric interrogates her when she comes back from Erudite headquarters. Tris and the other initiates then face their final test for initiation in which they face a simulation of their fears.
    2) Tris is beginning to grow stronger but, is told by Four to act vulnerable and I was surprised when Tris showed some vulnerability in front of Eric because he could have ranked her lower but, I also liked Four’s follow up after explaining how Tris tried to kiss him yet was rejected.
    3) Four is Tris’ foil in the story. Four expresses his feelings to Tris and they go from being instructor and pupil to boyfriend and girlfriend. Four makes Tris really nervous but, also saves her in dire situations. Four brings out the past Abnegation in Tris though explaining to her that selflessness and bravery are quite similar. Four also gets her to bring out her old vulnerable self to assist her through initiation instead of being independent since she can handle herself. Along with all of these, Four also brings out the affectionate side of Tris that she never got to experience because it didn’t happen in Abnegation. This is how Four is Tris’ foil.
    4) If I were Tris when Al asked for forgiveness for nearly killing her, I would have forgiven him since he is a friend and also since he seems kind of fragile emotionally and needs comforting.

    2) Even though there is a new rule effect, I would still think that Katniss might not trust Peeta. If she killed him, there would be nobody to slow her down and would maybe giver her a better chance of survival.

    3) I think Katniss’ foil is the Capitol. They are the opposite of Katniss. They are rich and people care about what they say, not a poor girl from District 12. The Capitol thinks that they can tell people exactly how to live their lives, and then kill innocent children every year just to show their power. I think this anger Katniss because before the games she kept her emotions inside of her more. But now that she is in the games, she has grown more aggressive and wants to show everyone that a girl from the poorest district can make a difference.

    4) If i were Katniss, I don’t think i would try and save Peeta. IF he can’t fight for a long time, he will slow Katniss down and lessen her chance for surviving.

Despite being from the Capital, Cinna still helps Katniss rebel by making her symbolic clothing and encourages her to rebel. In this section, Tris is continuing to be analyzed by the Eurodite in order to see what makes her brain divergent. Just as they start to clue in to something Tris manipulates the simulation and attacks the head leader Jeanine. This causes her execution to be scheduled for the next day but when Tris is shot with the serum she does not die. Peter had switched the serums do she is merely paralyzed and with the help of both Tobias and Peter they escape. This section ends with the Dauntless and the Faction less joining together to destroy everything but Tris decided that's not what she wants and rather she wants to go after an important piece of information. Something that my character did that surprised me was her going after Jeanine. Tris knew she was weak and would be stopped but she still lashed out at Jeanine. This act almost got her killed. Nether the less I still admire Tris' determination and bravery. In this book my characters foil is Tobias. Tris and Tobias love each other deeply but they disagree on a lot of things. Their relationship will go from them being happy together to them fighting sue to their disagreements. They interact quite like any couple and hardly ever want to be apart. They are so in love that they now have each other in their fear landscapes and simulations, scared of the death of each other. Tobias makes Tris stronger and encourages her to be brave and to be her best. He gives him some hope in the wold of war she is in but he also makes her want to scream. He doesn't understand her motives completely and hates when she risks her life but that is what Tris needs to do. It's part of who she is. If i was in Tris' shoes I would have done things differently. Instead of attacking i would have waited out the process to be rescued. That way i would have a better chance of survival.

One day everything starts to go wrong and the girl, Teresa, finally wakes up from coma. The Gladers are scared of the Grievers attacking them since the doors hadn’t been closed and Gally suddenly shows up and warns them that they’re all going to die. I like how Thomas is fully determined to help Minho and the other two keepers to escape the maze. I think Thomas’ main foil is the girl, Teresa. Thomas and Teresa somehow feels a connection between them although neither of them remember their times together. When Teresa wakes up she first runs up to Thomas and they talk and feel comforted to each other as they’ve known each other since a long time. Teresa impacts Thomas because she makes him realize that he and herself are the most important and the smartest people in the Maze/Glade. Radley wanted Celia to go with her and she tried to convince Celia and I liked that she did that. Her foil is the APP's (American People's Party) which had taken power of America, separated her from her parents, and is now finally weakening. They interact because they were in charge of America, where Radley lived before it got dangerous and they were gathering people to throw in prison for no good reason other than they disagreed with them. The foil impacts Radley because they separated her from her parents and made her go on this journey with little food and a lot of hardships but she survived and she changed as she learns that sometimes she has to depend on herself, her parents wont always be there to fix things for her. She has grown more thankful and appreciative even for little things like a bar of soap or a pair of scissors. If I was Radley, I would take Celia with me no matter what, I'd find a way to convince her because what if the Lady of the Barn she left her with doesn't take care of her or what if something happens to her? I would blame myself everyday because I didn't do enough to convince her to come along with me.

2.I am shocked that Kayde said that Razor betrayed the Patriots and that the senate funded them. That is horrible. Now that the Patriots have been undermined and a revolution is occurring, the people need a leader. This is where I think Day comes to play.
    3. Day’s foil is June. They are in love and love each other a lot, but June killed Day’s family in all but name. Also she is from a rich society and her behavior keeps popping out. 1.) A war has begun between the Erudite and Abnegation factions; Dauntless is being used by the Erudite as soldiers. They have a serum in them that makes their instinct to kill but Tris isn't affected by it since she is Divergent and neither is Four; however the leaders find out and take them away to experiment on.
2.) I really like Tris she is really confident and courageous. She took first place in the initiation to get into Dauntless which is really exciting.
3.) Tris' foil is Four/Tobias. They have a complicated relationship they like each other and kiss but no one can know cause he helps with putting ranks on for the initiation so they might think she is cheating. Four brings out the best in Tris whether he is there or not because she always thinks about his advice before doing things and he motivates her. " Tobias told me to figure out what this simulation means," (Roth 384). She does better and focuses better when she thinks of Four when she is supposed to concentrate. Four really brings out some of the best qualities in Tris.

I'm the end of the section Thomas Tersea and Aris are in a WICKED building and Thomas does not feel like he should trust them as they try to escape.
Thomas is extremely loyal to his friends. Even though Tersea has lied to him and abused him he is still trying to be her friend. Even when a character didn't like him Thomas continued to be loyal to them and try to make sure there are no disagreements between them.
Thomas's foil is Tersea, she brings out the innocence in him because they have know each other since they were kids. But in the section Tersea has been bringing out the insecurities and making him more stressed and angrey than usual because she is not acting herself and keeps betraying Thomas.

In this section of the story, Thalia and Basil end up in a place where real live plants are growing. Thalia finds raspberries and realizes that they are edible. Her and Basil both stuff themselves on it but they end up getting into a fight.Basil gets taken by these strange people that end up being with Basil and Thalia on the uprising idea but they are not all that they seem.

I was surprised when Thalia left her Gizmo because without that she has no idea what is going on in the outside world. She does not know what is going on with her parents or the uprising. I do like this character because she never follows anyone else but herself. She trust her own opinion.

My character has two foils. The first one is her parents old friend and her enemy, Ahimsa. Ahimsa is the one who is trying to find Thalia and get her arrested. The other one is the leader of the new found group Gaia. Both Thalia and Gaia disagree on a lot of things and she knows that something is not right with her.

Peeta begins to start remembering things that happened between him and Katniss but Katniss is too dumbfounded to see the progress he's trying to accomplish. This highlights that Katniss is too quick to think and not mature enough to think of what people would be doing for her if she was harmed. If I put myself in Katniss's shoes, I would be very miserable and sad because so many people are sacrificing their lives to save hers and there's nothing Katniss can do about it. Tom was recently reprogrammed by Dalton Prestwick after he insulted Dalton at a corporate meeting. Tom was forced to act under Dalton’s will until Wyatt freed him. Desperate for revenge, Tom and his friend Vik flood Dalton’s company with raw sewage
My reaction to Tom’s decision to flood Dalton’s company with sewage was admiration. I respected Tom for taking action against what Dalton had done to him and the plan was executed perfectly with Dalton ending up on his knees begging Tom.
Tom Raine’s foil would be Lieutenant Blackburn. Blackburn is a teacher who specializes in coding at the Spire and was one of the few soldiers who survived the primitive early neural processor, however he was forever plagued with intense paranoia towards the corporations. Blackburn interacts with Tom through class mainly, however he was the one that handled many of Tom’s incidents, such as being reprogrammed by Dalton. Tom has a grudging respect for Blackburn and does as he is told, while still giving him a bad attitude. Blackburn has turned Tom from a rebellious holligan into a capable cadet.
If I were in Tom’s shoes after finding out that I had been reprogrammed, I would have been furious as he was, However I would not have even considered flooding the perpetrator's office with sewage. For this, I respect Tom’s bravery.
