    1. Equality 7-2521 had been reading many books and learned things, such as the word “I”, which he uses all the time now, instead of we, the sacred word, which is ego, that the box he made was electricity, and more about how people were before his time; he learns about people and their names, and later named himself Prometheus, and names the Golden One Gaea. Gaea is pregnant with Prometheus’ child, and Prometheus only sees the future now; he wants to invite his friends and build a city that everyone will envy and want to come to. Prometheus wants to keep the legacy of the people he learned about, who died from protesting to stop the creation of the society he came from.
    2. I like Prometheus for wanting to make a better society for himself, and the other people to live in because he feels that the society isn’t a good place, since no one thinks about the things they want and themselves, so he wants to make it better for everyone.
    3. At the end of the story, Prometheus is transformed into a person who thinks of himself other than only thinking about his brothers. I like that Prometheus knows what he wants for himself, and he knows what will make him happy, so he starts referring to himself as an individual, and he starts acting the way of the sacred word, ego. “Whatever road I take, the guiding star is within me...They point in but one direction. They point to me,” (Rand 95). Prometheus is motivated to make a better society for the generations to come, and he is motivated by the men who tried to stop the creation of the society he came from, he salutes those men. Prometheus wants to make a society where people want to come and be themselves, and think about themselves; he wants to create a society with individualism.
    4. If I were Prometheus, I would try to create a better society that allows people to be who they are because Prometheus really believes in a society where people should be who they are, and be rewarded for that; he really wants people to be in a society with individualism, and he is willing to do many things to make that society. I agree with the beliefs of Prometheus, that a society should have individualism, so if I were Prometheus, I would continue to make the society he is making.

    1) Ember creates a plan to escape the prison facility and tricks Morris, a guard, so she can steal his gun. Chase unexpectedly arrives at the prison and Ember alters her escape plan to get them both out; Sean brings them to the resistance after they escape from the FBR.
    2) I loved when Ember stood up to Morris because she pointed the gun at him and threatened him to go away and not reveal that Ember and Chase were escaping otherwise she would shoot him.
    3) Ember is no longer the weak girl who gets into mischief; she is a woman who can solve her own problems, who knows what she wants, and she is in love with Chase. Ember was motivated by the death of her mother, helping Sean find his girlfriend, meeting back up with Chase, and the idea of helping with the resistance. Ember saved Chase and learned valuable information for the resistance while at the prison. When all was said and done, Ember was proud of her accomplishments and was at peace, “We were safe and together, and that was all that mattered now,” (Simmons 362). At the end of the book, Ember is a confident women who will be able to warn people about the inhumane actions the MM participate in and eventually put an end to the evil ways of the FBR.
    4) If I was Ember I would have also tried to get the maid, Delilah out of the prison. Although, Delilah wasn't very motivated and did not mind being treated so poorly, I think Ember should have tried to get her out too because no one should be stuck in that disgusting place run by the FBR and MM.

    1) In the last section of the book, David and Shay go to the Special Circumstances headquarters to capture Maddy, Az, Shay, Croy, and some others. Once they get there they rescue everyone but Az because they find out that he’s dead. Also, Shay had become a pretty and acted a totally different way. Later on, Maddy finds a cure but cannot test it on Shay so Tally tells the truth she’s been hiding and volunteers to go make herself pretty so she can be tested on instead.
    2) When Tally gave herself up and took the risk to go become pretty I was shocked. She had definitely changed as a character since the beginning of the book. I was also proud because she had learned what loyalty was and she felt bad for betraying her friends.
    3) My last impression of Tally is a girl that is determined. Whenever she has something set in her mind she’ll make sure she reaches her goal by completing the task. In the beginning of the book, Tally wanted to become pretty to meet Peris and enjoy the luxury of being a pretty. At the end of the book, she becomes pretty to be Maddy’s medical experiment so everyone can go back to being an ugly. She’s the polar opposite of herself at the beginning of the story and that’s what makes this book great.
    4) If I was Tally, I would also get the operation to become pretty done. This was Shay wouldn’t have to get harmed or do something against her will. I would do this because it would make me feel a lot less guilty and maybe an action like this could regain the respect and trust that I have lost from my friends. This is what I would do if I was in Tally’s shoes.

Darrow has decided that he and his army are going to destroy the Proctors but first they go and take over Jupiter where they meet the “Jackal”, Archgoverner’s son, who kills one of Darrow’s best soldiers Pax and turns out to be Mustang’s twin. The Proctors decide to take Mustang and Darrow goes off in a rage and kills, binds, and gags all the other Proctors and finally wins the game and everyone can finally go home; Darrow meets with Archgoverner Augustus and accepts his offer to be a Lancer, or apprentice, to the House of Augustus. When Darrow accepted the Archgoverner’s apprenticeship I was shocked because he had killed Eo and now Darrow was becoming his apprentice, this made me realize how cunning Darrow has become. My final impression of Darrow is that he has become a lot more like the Golds and deep down is still himself but being a Gold is no longer a role to him but is actually him. He is motivated by the hope that one day he can kill the Archgoverner as vengeance for Eo and he is motivated by the hope that he can one day lead his people to freedom. “I will win…I will dive into hell in hopes of one day rising to freedom. I will sacrifice. And I will grow my legend and spread it amongst the peoples of all worlds…I am the hope of my people. Of all people in bondage,” (Brown 379). Darrow is willing to die for his people and for the hope that he can free them out of their cages. If I were Darrow I would be scared of being so close to the Archgoverner but not being able to do anything but I would be hopeful that I would be one step closer to fulfilling Eo’s dreams.

Blog #6 – Pretties by Scott Westerfeld pgs. 282-348
    1) Tally makes it to the Rusty Ruins and found David there waiting for her who she hasn’t seen since she was an ugly. He was uglier than she remembered and she was prettier to him than he was expecting. David took Tally to the New Smoke where the rest of the Crims and the others were. All of the Crims are cured now but Zane isn’t doing too well. It turns out that when Zane and Tally shred the two pills, Zane took the one that didn’t stop eating away his lesions and Tally took the pill that stopped that. When Zane went to the hospital for his hand, the hospital put a tracker in his tooth when he was unconscious and Special Circumstances set it off so now the New Smokes are caught.
    2) I was surprised when Tally said, “Get your ugly face out of here!” to David because she used to be in love with him and now not even being back with him for a day, she said something that harsh to him.
    3) At the end of the book, Tally was still brave. What motivated her to push through and make it to the Rusty Ruins alone was Zane and the other Crims. All she could think of was seeing them again. “I’ll take care of you, Zane,” Tally said to him. Tally not only takes care of herself now, she also cares a lot about her peers. In the beginning of the book, her biggest worry was becoming a Crim, and now, her biggest worry is getting all the Crims and every other pretty free and cured from the operation.
    4) If I were put in Tally’s shoes, I would have done what she did. I would have told David, Maddy, Fausto, and the other to run away and get far away somewhere safe and stayed with Zane. Tally did the right thing by staying with Zane and promising him that she would get him cured correctly once the doctors helped his brain.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

    1) In the final section of the book there are only four tributes left in the Hunger Games, including Katniss, Peeta, Foxface, and Cato. The section begins with Katniss and Peeta still attempting at survival, as food is getting scarce. They are still putting on a romance act for the audience, and recently received a whole feast from a group of sponsors. After running out of food, Katniss and Peeta are forced to hunt, and they find themselves with a couple of rabbits and a squirrel to live on. Also, while Peeta was picking more berries to eat, the tribute from District 5 (AKA Foxface) decided to steal from his stash, and the berries poisoned her, ultimately leading to her death. Peeta discarded of the berries, and the small incident led him and Katniss one step closer to home. Soon enough, the Gamemakers drained all of the water sources, except for the lake at the Cornucopia, forcing them to face their final battle with Cato. At the Cornucopia, Cato appeared out of the woods, along with a pack of mutated hounds. The remaining three tributes climbed the Cornucopia to avoid death, but Cato attacked Peeta, and Katniss shot an arrow at his hand to knock him off the structure. He was slowly mauled to death by the hounds, and Katniss ended his life with one of her final arrows. Katniss and Peeta believed themselves to be victors, but discovered from the announcer that the rule change had been revoked. They could not bear to live without one another, and attempted to commit suicide by swallowing the poisonous berries, but the Capitol eventually gave in to avoid their own humiliation. Katniss and Peeta were lifted from the arena, and Peeta had to be instantly operated on. His leg was amputated, as he had lost too much blood in the arena. Finally, Katniss and Peeta were presented as the lovers who were now victors, and found themselves to be in an act that would last for the rest of their lives, even when they returned home.
    2) Katniss is still a likeable character, as she nearly committed suicide because she couldn't live without Peeta, even though they were not really in love. Even after the games, she still pretended to love him for both their family's safety, as they had both defied the Capitol by almost swallowing the berries. The Capitol is not very forgiving, and would harshly punish both of them if they realized the whole love story was only an act to survive.
    3) At the end of the book, I believe Katniss is now enraged and confused, as she feels that though she survived, she is still part of the Capitol's games. Now, the Capitol is furious with Katniss and Peeta's decision to almost leave them without a victor, as they almost committed dual suicide. Before and during the games, Katniss only wanted to return home to her family. Now, that she finally got what she wished, she is in distress, as she has to pretend to be in love with Peeta for the rest of her life, just for the satisfaction of the Capitol. "I take his hand, holding on tightly, preparing for the cameras, and dreading the moment when I will finally have to let go." (Collins 374). This quote is a metaphor for when Katniss will finally be able to let go of her past, which will most likely never happen, as the Capitol is always sure to remind the citizens of Panem of their power through the infamous Hunger Games. Katniss is now motivated to push through these problems because of the fact that she is safe with her family, and will most likely never have to return to the Hunger Games.
    4) If I were Katniss, I would have also went to the extremes she did to ensure the protection of my family. It would be tough to act for an audience that is not always easily satisfied, but if I had to, I definitely would do so. It would seem selfish to not attempt to return home to my family.

When Tally and David finally reached the Special Circumstance office, they realized that they were too late and Dr. Cable already turned Shay into a pretty. David's father, Az, even died from knowing too much about the brain damage that surgery can cause. Tally felt devastated knowing that she was the cause of this disaster so she decided to get herself turned into a pretty so David's mother, Maddy, could use the cure on her and see if it works. I was surprised when Tally was willing to turn into a pretty after everything she's seen and been through. She knows everything about the lesions and brain damage the surgery causes and she is risking her life to save Shay. I think that was very brave of her. By the end of the book, I think Tally became more determined and brave. She learned so much from the people of The Smoke which built her personality more and made her more aware of their society. her experience changed her a lot to become more brave to stand up to the Special Circumstance and be determined in risking her life to save Shay. Even though she knew how dangerous her surgery and medication would be, she still decided to do it. "You can't know for sure how something like this will work. It's only a one-percent chance, but it could screw up her brain forever" (Westerfeld 411). If I were in Tally's position, I would also get the operation to be a pretty. It would be fair since she betrayed Shay in the first place and it's the least she could do for her in return.

    1) In the final chapters of the book, Wylie is helping Martin and Trevor escape from the soul prison because the souls (seraphs) captured them. It seems as if Wylie is helping Martin and Trevor escape by typing his alien book because whatever is happening in the alien book, is happening to Martin and Trevor. Basically, the alien book has come alive and Martin and Trevor are caught in the catastrophe of it. In the end, Wylie manages to help Martin and Trevor while saving the world from ending at the same time. “ The world ended last night, but it seems that nobody noticed. New Age gurus from China to Scotland stood on mountaintops and chanted, but guess what, Chicken Little stayed home. We are now living on the first day beyond the end of the ancient Mayan calendar, a date that has no number in their measurement.” (Strieber 310).

    2) My reaction towards Wylie’s son, Nick, is proud simply because helped his father when he was struggling about what to type into the laptop to save Martin and Trevor’s life.
“They need us. They need us now, Dad.” said Nick. “I can’t help where the story goes.” said Nick’s Dad. “Nick pushed his father away from the laptop.” (Strieber 306). I think that Nick made quite a bold move for pushing his Dad out the way like he did, but Nick’s mind was in the right place when he made the decision. He was trying to save mankind.

    3) My final impression of the main character, Wylie, is mature because Wylie is finally starting to act like an adult. What motivated Wylie was Martin and Trevor because he has a friendship with both of them. Earlier in this book, Wylie was having difficulty focusing on finishing this alien book which involved Martin and Trevor. Since this alien book is coming alive and Martin and Trevor are in serious trouble with the seraphs (aliens), Wylie puts aside his feelings for not wanting to finish the book and actually finishes book which saves Martin and Trevor’s lives. “Dad, you need to focus on Martin and Trevor.” said Nick.
    “Sorry.” said Wylie.
“Don’t be sorry, just do it!” said Nick.
“His fingers shot back to the keys, began flying.” (Strieber 302).
As you can see, Wylie was able to concentrate without having a mental breakdown like he has had in the past. Wylie might not be fully mature yet, but it’s remarkable progress.

    4) If I was Martin Winters in this book, I would be just as worried and scared to death if someone I loved was trapped and couldn't get out. Martin’s wife and daughter, Lindy and Winnie, were trapped by souls and couldn't get out. Martin was extremely worried about the safety of his wife and daughter. “I hear my wife. Lindy is calling me!” said Martin. (Strieber 305). When Lindy and Winnie were trapped, not a second passed by that he didn't worry or fear for the lives of Lindy and Winnie.

In this section, Lena goes to visit Alex at 37 Brooks but the door was locked; she gets the door open but when she calls for Alex he doesn't get a response. She get suspicious and finally sees Alex but he realizes that someone was there. Alex tells Lena to run but Lena gets caught and she is locked in her house; Lena gets a chance to escape and both her and Alex try to make it into the Wilds but Alex doesn’t make it. I thought Gracie was brave to help Lena out of the ropes and I thought Lena was brave to escape to the Wilds even without Alex. By the end of the book, Lena became braver and accepted that love was good and even though it could be bad it was worth the risk. Alex, her mom, and Gracie all helped her to realize this. “And before I can think about what I’m doing, or the two-story drop to the street below, I’m swinging out of the window and letting go, the air sweeping me up like an embrace so for a moment my heart sings again and I think, I’m flying,” (Oliver 431). This quote shows how Lena has changed. In the beginning of the book Lena would have never taken a risk like this but now she is willing to do this for her love for Alex. If I was Lena, I would’ve done the same thing. I wouldn’t like to live in a place like where Lena lives and I wouldn’t want them to control my life. Lena and Montag are similar because they didn’t like their society and they both decided to leave.

    1) In the end, Thomas goes through the Changing and discovers how to leave the maze. The creators test them one last time and only half make it through, then, some rescuers help the kids get out of the lab the Creators had made for themselves.
    2) This section made Thomas seem human. All this time Thomas needed to show his strength and cleverness, but when Chuck saves Thomas and is killed, Thomas cries over his body, showing the reader that Thomas truly does have feelings, like any other 16 year old boy.
    3) By the end of the story, Thomas' character is brought full circle, it's clear that he is kind, strong, clever, and caring. However, the death of one of his very close friends, Chuck, had a major impact on him, which will probably affect the decisions he makes in the future. "Thomas felt an impossible happiness trying to break through inside him. An enormous pit lurked in the middle of it though," (Dashner 368). He feels guilt because Chuck sacrificed himself to save Thomas, and he feels he isn't able to be happy so soon after the death of his friend. There is also a clear difference between him and the other 19 kids that made it out of the maze. Teresa notices this and comforts him, but it will take a while before Thomas can be okay again.
    4) I believe if I were in Chuck’s shoes when Gally threw the knife at him, I would’ve done what Chuck did. After everything Thomas would have done for me to keep me alive, I definitely wouldn’t think twice by, in turn, saving Thomas.

  12. While Radley is staying at her house waiting for her parents, she sees one of her old friends, Julian who tells her her parents died. Radley didn’t want to stay there after hearing that so she takes Julian with her back to Canada where they live together with Celia, her baby Abigail, and the Lady of the Barn Madame Seville. At the very end Celia decides to go back to Haiti to those children who had nobody and I was happy that she chose to do that, and I like her for being so caring. She has grown from being dependent on her parents, to learning how to fix her problems by herself because her parents aren’t there anymore. What motivates her is that she was spoiled before but after everything that happened in America, she knew what it was like to be less fortunate. She wants nothing more, now, than to make the less fortunate people’s lives better. ““Look at the good you have done here,” Madame Seville says, smiling down at Abigail in her basket, ”Imagine what you will do in Haiti.”” If I was Radley and I found the last letter that her mother wrote to her but never sent, I wouldn’t have read it. I would have left it there because what if her mother didn’t want her to read it, there was obviously a reason she never sent it to Radley.

The games are finally over but Peeta and Katniss find out that only one of them can survive. They pretend that they are going to kill themselves and the Gamemakers decide that they can both win. When Katniss spit in Clove’s face I thought that was very stupid to do. I say this because Clove can kill you if she wants to and I think that Katniss should have been much nicer to her for a chance of survival. At the end of the story Katniss is a different person. She is much more experienced as a fighter, survivor, and even boyfriend since she was pretending to be Peeta’s boyfriend throughout the games. Also, I think that she has feelings for Peeta that she’s never had for a boy ever. Katniss even said that she would never be the same if Peeta died. “’You’re not leaving me here alone,’ I say. Because if he dies, I’ll never go home, not really. I’ll spend the rest of my life in this arena trying to think my way out” (Collins 343). If I was Katniss and someone was thinking about to kill me, I would try to be the nicest I could be because even if I did hate that person, I would rather survive.

She tells him their history and explains the Buggers thought that humans were a mindless species and that when they found out about their sentience, they weren’t going to attack anymore. He decides to write a book with this information and it begins a frenzy on Earth.
Ender decides that because he killed the Buggers against his will, he will find a planet to start a new bugger colony.
Ender is very upset and angry, but his will has been burnt out by the I.F. He knows that he can never prevent what the I.F. does with him, but he can fix it. He is motivated to help the Buggers by his regret for all the things he did in training and for killing the Buggers. "I'll carry you," said Ender, "I'll go from world to world until I find a time and a place where you can come awake in safety. And I'll tell your story to my people, so that perhaps in time they can forgive you, too. The way that you've forgiven me."
If I was Ender, I would do whatever I can to destroy my reputation as a killer.

Sloane is determined to learn more about her past, and visits Realm’s house with James to ask Realm questions; here, Sloane learns that her parents were lying her her by telling her that Brady died in an accident, rather than suicide. Meanwhile, James and Sloane are having a tough time at building back their relationship; James gets jealous of Sloane and Realm. When James brings Sloane swimming, an amber alert is issued, and they are now on the run from The Program. I was surprised when Sloane went back to the Wellness Center, because she had said that she never wanted to go back. She was brave to go back, but while there she saw a boy commit suicide. In the end, Sloane became angry and rebellious. Sloane was furious with her parents, because they lied to her about her brother. When the amber alert was issued, she refused to go back home because she knew that she would be thrown back into The Program. Her and James ran away, and planned to meet up with Lacey, so that maybe they could destroy the Program. James motivated my character, as he kept pushing her forward, and eventually their relationship mended itself, and they became happy. Also, Sloane’s want to regain her memory keeps her motivated. She wants to get rid of the Program, and she wants to remember her past, even though she is warned by Realm and countless others that it could be dangerous. “Our time is running out. I’m not sure we can escape The Program. Especially when I know that we couldn’t before,” (Young 391). Sloane has her doubts, but he is determined to escape. If I was Sloane, I would try my hardest to escape The Program. I would make sure that I can trust my allies, and I would make most of the same decisions that Sloane did. She was very smart and cautious in this situation, and also very brave.

    The Program by Suzanne Young

    1) In the final section of the book, Sloane continues to hang out with James. They end up going to see Realm, Sloane’s friend from in the Program, to find out how their lives are connected. Realm tells them a little about their previous lives and at the end of the visit, James is jealous when he sees Realm kiss Sloane. After a few days, James and Sloane begin to date again. Noticing this, Sloane’s Mom alerts the handlers and Sloane and James end up running away together.
    2) At the end of the book, Realm gives Sloane a pill to make her remember everything she forgot during the Program but I was surprised that Sloane decided not to take the one thing that would help her connect to everything from her old life.
    3) At the end of the book, readers really get the impression that Sloane is a strong character. In the end, Sloane rebels against all of her handlers and all of the authorities when she runs away with James. Leaving her Mom, Dad and the home where she grew up took a lot of courage on her part and it shows the strength she’s developed as a character. “He’s not the only one who wants to fight. So with that thought, I begin again-” (Young 400). This quote is from the moment before she and James leave for good. Her strength is shown when she says “I begin again,” in that starting all over is one of the hardest things to do but she is willing to face that head on. Her motivations are similar to those that she had at the beginning of the book. Her main motivation remains her boyfriend, James, whom she loves madly, and her life which she is taking for herself instead of leaving it in the hands of the Program.
    4) If I were Sloane, would have taken the pill that Realm gave me to make me remember everything from my past. I understand the symbolism of Sloane not taking the pill but I would have wanted to remember what happened to me and I would have wanted to remember all the small and special moments that I had with my family and friends that were taken away from me by the Program.

Steve and Jenny raided the slavers camp causing them to siege war on Settlers Landing. After a brutal fight the people of Settlers Landing drove the slavers out, soon people from the rival camp Fort Leonard appeared and in a shocking last stand Settlers Landing became friendly with Fort Leonard. I was very surprised when Steve admitted this whole war was his fault to a bunch of people from Fort Leonard, with guns pointed right at him. ‘“It’s my fault, it was a dumb prank. I made everyone here think your people were attacking us and that's why we sent the slavers to shoot your friends’, said Steve” (Hirsch 259). I really like Steve now because he has the courage to stick up for his own actions even if it means sacrificing his life. Near the end of the book Steve is understanding, courageous, and loyal. Steve did not back down when the slavers invaded Settlers Landing and even risked his life by being a distraction so Marcus could lead the main group of men to victory. Steve is motivated because he finally has a home, and he wants it to stay that way. “I want a home,” Steve said (Hirsch 275). Steve finally feels that he belongs somewhere and has friends and others that depend on him. Steve has also become more eager to learn and teach as he has taken over the weekend classes from, Mr Tuttle, to teach the little kids how to read. If I was Steve I would want a home and stay there as well. It would be 15 years of wandering around in the wilderness and then suddenly belonging somewhere nice and not wanting to let go.

    1) In this section they ran out of heat and water, her family gets sick except her with the flu and a lot more. Miranda didn’t want to be there anymore and practically sacrificed herself for her family by walking outside for food. When she got there she found a food supply and the people promised that if they made it this far they would survive. She took the food home happily. 2) I was proud of Miranda when her whole family got sick and she decided to take care of them but still be cautious to how they could get her sick. She took intiative and helped them out a lot. 3) What motivated Miranda was that she wanted to be happy. She didn’t want to suffer anymore and she didn’t want everything to be so complicated. Her whole family was still alive and with her, but she tried her best and went out to get help. 4) If I was in her place I would be as concerned and worried as she was. She had been okay for a lot of months and she missed how things used to be. I think that I would be reacting the same way she is or even worse than she is.

    1. Erudite has made a serum that controls the minds of the Dauntless, forcing them to fight. The Dauntless were forced to fight Abnegation so Erudite could gain government control, however Tris and Tobias were able to stop it before it got worse.
    2. Tris has continued to become much more brave and confident in herself. When she faced both Peter and Eric, she wasn't afraid to shoot. They said that she wouldn't shoot them, and she asked why they underestimated her so much, and took a shot at a leg or arm. Tris also risked her life several times for her family and old faction, Abnegation. I have always liked Tris throughout the whole story, especially after all the brave things she has done.
    3. Tris has grown a lot as a character. She is much more strong, and has learned that she isn't just Abnegation or Dauntless, she is Divergent. Tris thought at the beginning of the book Abnegation and Dauntless had two entirely different outlooks at life, but became to realize that they aren't much different. “‘There were some things I needed to learn.’ ‘How to be brave?’ my father says quietly. ‘How to be selfless,’ I say. ‘Often they’re the same thing,’” (Ross 457). Tris tells her father after Marcus asks if she regrets picking Dauntless that she needed to learn how to be selfless. She was always in Abnegation, but couldn't get her mind to think just selfless. By being in Dauntless, she learned selflessness comes along with bravery. Tris was motivated by the fact innocent people were dying, and she didn't to stop the simulation. “‘That every second I waste means another Abnegation dead and another Dauntless made into a murderer?’” (Ross 466). Tris knew she had to risk everything to save Abnegation and Dauntless.
    4. If I were Tris, I would have risked my life too. She was protecting other people over herself, and if tons of people would be saved from only one life being taken, I wouldn't mind. In my opinion, Tris always made the right decisions I would have made as well.

    Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

Katniss and her crew of five hide in one of Plutarch's friends store until the rebels come and then they storm the Capitol when Katniss and is burned by a bomb and witnesses her sister’s death. Also, Katniss is allowed to shoot Snow in front of the public but shoots Coin instead, causing her to be isolated in a room to three weeks and sent back to district 12 to live with Peeta. I'm very surprised Katniss killed Coin because I would've thought she would never let Snow get in her head and go against the rebels. My final impression of Katniss is she is the strongest and toughest she has ever been. She is not afraid to stand up for anything she believes in, no matter what the consequences are. She is motivated by so many different things, especially the death of Prim and all the people sacrificing their lives for Katniss. This makes furious and want to make things right, by killing Coin and never being the Mockingjay again." The point of the arrow shifts upwards. I release the string. And President Coin collapses over the side of the balcony and plunges to the ground. Dead," (Collins 372).If I was in Katniss's shoes, I would've also killed Coin because there's enough proof showing that the bomb killing the children and Prim was the rebels and also Coin wanted Prim to be there when the bomb went off, resulting in her death. Although it was Katniss's chance to kill Snow and she would be punished for killing Coin, I still would've done the same Katniss did.

Equality 7-2521 begins to question the society he lives in and decides to spend time with the Golden one without any regret. They climb a mountain together and find a house, they are so surprised at all of the technology they find inside of the house. They find many forbidden things in their society and are surprised that it lasted this long. Equality 7-2521 comes to the conclusion that life is for his happiness when he learns that we means I. I am very proud of Equality 7-2521 because he finally realized why he was unhappy was because he was living for “we” and not for “I”. “I stand here on the summit of the mountain. I lift my head and i spread my arms. This, my body and spirit, this is the end of the quest. I wished to know the meaning of things. I am the meaning. I wished to find a warrant for being . I need no warrant for being, and no word for sanction upon my being. I am the warrant for my sanction,” (Rand 94). I believe that Equality 7-2521 has finally realized the meaning of true happiness. I am so happy for him that he found a girl and new things to live for, for himself and not for a bunch of people. If I were Equality 7-2521 I would do the same exact thing if I found out I was only one person. I would live my life without regret.

  22. 1. Day, June, and Kaede escape the Colonies in a stolen jet and head back towards the Republic capital of Denver, but Kaede was shot in the escape. Kaede uses a extremely risky plan to get them into the city and past the city’s ARMOR. Once they make it through, they crash and Kaede is killed. June still being slow from her illness tells Day to go on without her and do what he feels is right. When he gets to the skyscraper, he sees the rebellion and hatred in the faces of the people and he knows that if he doesn’t make a stand soon, there will be a revolution. Day makes a grand speech that calms the public and he is reunited with his brother. In the end, he is diagnosed with a tumor that is slowly killing him and that he will be dead in a year.
    2. I believe that Day was very brave to risk his life by going onto that Balcony and making a speech that would give support to the elector and help the Republic rise. He overcame all of his experiences and hatred to do the right thing and help change his country for the better.
    3. Day is a doer not a thinker. But, he does know how to analyze the situation for himself and determine what the right thing to do is. He is highly motivated now by his feelings toward June and his brother eden. He struggles to tell June that he is dying so in the end tells her to take a position as the Princeps and keeps it to himself. He also keeps the truth from Eden so that Eden can remain happy that he is with his brother again.
    4. If I were Day, I would come out about what the doctor said to June. This is because she has the right to know this after all they’ve been through. He shouldn’t have his death come as a shock to her just like her brother’s death. It would be too much to bear.

After all that’s happened and seeing the destroyed cities and dead bodies he realizes that there is no hope. In the last section of Uglies Tally and David rescue their fellow Smokies including David’s mother, Maddy but they didn’t get there in time to save David’s father or before Shay became pretty. Like the pretty operation always does it changed the way Shay perceives things so after Maddy came up with a way to possibly reverse the operation Shay refuses to be a subject. Since Tally was the reason why the Smoke was invaded as a way to make it up to everyone she chose to become pretty so that Maddy would have a wiling subject, before Tally left she put her consent in writing then went back to the city with Shay to become a pretty. I’m surprised that Tally would become pretty not knowing if they’d be able to reverse it since she had finally found herself in the Smoke; however I’m glad she did. At the end of the book I really liked Tally because even though it was her fault that the Smoke was destroyed she made the right decision in telling everyone and becoming pretty to find out if the pill would reverse the operation. Tally is motivated to be a willing subject because she owed everyone in the Smoke especially David and Shay. “…David. I’m the reason why Shay is pretty. It’s my fault your father’s dead,” (Westerfeld 399). Tally felt guilty for the problems and pain she caused the ones she loved. A part of Tally’s plan is after she becomes pretty David is supposed to be the one who comes back to get her so she can be a subject, she’s putting a lot of faith in someone she hurt tremendously. Tally is taking a big risk, she could remain pretty and brainwashed for the rest of her life or David could take a chance and bring her back. The fact that she is willing to do that for the Smokies says a lot about her, it shows that she really has changed and truly wanted to be a member of the Smoke. If I were David I would go back to get Tally so that she could be a subject and not just to reverse the operation for Tally but also for Shay. Tally did a lot to prove that she was no longer a spy for special circumstances like when she destroyed the pendant given to her to locate the Smoke, then when she rescued the Smokies, and finally when she was willing to turn pretty. This is why if I were David I would bring Tally back to the Ruins.

    2. Winston broke and told O’Brien to torture Julia instead of him, it makes me not like Winston because he gave in and wasn’t loyal.
    3. Winston is broken and expecting to be killed by the end of the book. He has given in to O’Brien and is weak in my opinion. “And perhaps you might pretend, afterwards, that it was only a trick and that you just said it to make them stop and didn’t really mean it. But that isn’t true. At the time when it happens you do mean it. You think there’s no other way of saving yourself and you’re quite ready to save yourself that way. You want it to happen to the other person. You don’t give a damn what they suffer. All you care about is yourself.” This shows that he has given up and just wants to be free.

In this section of the book Katniss and Peeta were trying to get food from Haymitch by pretending to like each other. Katniss then starts to think that Peeta actually likes her. There is only three people left in the Hunger games.
In this section Katniss is smart. Katniss is smart because she played her cards right and had love scenes with Peeta to try and get food.
In the Hunger games Katniss is family is the foil. Her family is the foil because they are who want her to survive and that is what keeps Katniss going. If katniss wasn't trying to get the food for her family then she might not still be alive in the hunger games . If Katniss sister never was elected to be in the hunger games katniss wouldn't be in the hunger games. Katniss was effected by her sister and that made her want her to go into the hunger games and come out a winner for her family.
If I was in Katniss shoes, i'm not gonna lie I would probably be scared. I would be scared because I would be young and trying to stay alive. I also would be scared to kill someone because that would be hard to do.

They send Deedee through the FlatTrans into Alaska with a note saying that she is immune from the virus. Alec then crashed the ship that they were flying into a building to kill the three of them. Something significant that Mark did was make the decision to crash their ship. I like that his strong opinion was to have them die to prevent dying from the flare virus. He did it to spare them from the suffering. My final impression of Mark was that he is a very strong-willed person. He kept firm with his decisions even when they meant ending his own life because he knew it was for the best. Throughout the whole story, he remained motivated by his relationships. “She’d been there with him through it all. With Alec. Lana. Darnell and the others.” (Dashner 324) He stayed with and protected Trina until the end. If I was in Mark’s position, I probably would have done the same thing in crashing the ship. Although ending my life, it would be for the best.

    2) I am surprised that Cassia kept everything that has happened to herself and that she didn’t tell Xander or the official the whole story.

    3) Now at the end of the story, Cassia is strong and independent. She decides to take her own risk by not taking the red tablet, and lying to her official. Cassia was motivated by Ky throughout the whole story. His stories and love for her is what caused her to rebel and is why her family got moved to another borough. On pg. 345 it says, “This will be what I have to hold onto as I go forward. The kiss, and the poems, and the I love you’s we wrote and said.” This shows that Ky is motivating her to want to try to go find him.

    4) If I were Cassia, I would start trying to find Ky soon. The longer she waits, the better the chance is that he’s dead because he is fighting in a war.

    The Scorch Trials.

In The Scorch Trials, by James Dashner, Thomas has been kidnapped by Tersea and Aris. Even though they work together to get to safe haven, Thomas still does not trust Tersea even though she claims she had to make him believe that she betrayed him so WICKED would not kill him. When Thomas, Tersea, and Aris meet up with the gladers they have a hard time trusting tersea and Aris so they are on constant alert. In the end of the section Thomas and the gladers are rescued and taken to WICKED headquarters.
one thing that I was impressed about was the fact that Thomas stood up for himself when Tersea wanted to pretend like she didn't completely betrayed him. He stood his ground and didn't forgive her right away, he is making her earn the trust back. I think this is really important because in the beginning of this book thomas thought Tersea was a defenceless girl who happened to be his best friend who he trusted and care for. Now he is seeing her in a new perspective, that she is vicious and will betray someone that truly cares for her because of her own personal benefit.
In the beginning of the scorch trial we see Thomas as a intelligent, semi-brave, caring friend. As we progress through the story thomas begins to grow and starts taking more action and responsibility. He becomes and role model for the gladers and a great leader. He knows when he should action and when to plan before you do something you regret. He leads the gladers to safety several times saving them from cranks, and starvation. Thomas makes sure to care for all his friends but also newcomers such as Jorge and Brenda. Even if he doesn't like that character right away like Aris, he will still protect you.
If i was in Thomas shoes i would feel a lot of pressure, because so many people are counting on me and looking up to me that i wouldn't want to let them down. Thomas has such a big heart, but he also know how to handle himself in difficult situations. I would be worried that either i would be to focused on helping my friends that i would forget about myself, or i would totally freak out and be like every man for themselves. Thomas is able to find the balance between those two, which I believe is really important because hes not risking himself to help others but still helps them. He gives the gladers hope that they will get out and be safe because of all the times he has saved them and because Thomas is not a quitter, he will stand by you.

Thomas and the other Gladers, including Teresa, continue on trying to find a way out of the maze by working in the map room and figuring things out. When things seem to not work out, Thomas get himself stung by a Griever on purpose and remembers the secret to get out of the maze. The Gladers gets tested by the Creators for the last time and only half of them make it through. Chuck sacrifices himself for Thomas.
I really like how Thomas didn’t gave up through the whole ‘escaping the maze’ plan and stuck with his peers and friends till the end.
At the end of the book, Thomas is more of a matured person now. Thomas feels as a leader of the Gladers and he feels that he has a major role in the Glade. I feel like Chuck’s death greatly affected Thomas. Since Chuck was his closest friend, and Thomas promised him to take him home, he feels really guilty for what happened. “Something happened within Thomas. It started deep down in his chest, sees of rage, Of revenge. Of hate” (Dashner 357). This quote shows that Thomas really cared for his friend and he wanted revenge for that.
If I was Gally, I wouldn’t betray my people or kill anyone who has helped me.

    Divergent
1.) Tris finds out Four himself is divergent as well when they are forced to attack Abnegation. They are both injected with a sirum that made their fellow Dauntless to be brainwashed into attacking Abnegation by force of the Eurodites, but Tris and Four rebel for her parents and what they feel is right.
2.) I do still like Tris. A reaction to one thing Tris did would be how she protected her parents and the people she grew up around by exposing herself. Tris proved to leaders of dauntless that she is Divergent when the sirum held no affect on her and four, this got her into a lot of trouble but it was a brave attempt on her part.
3.) Tris has changed a lot from the beginning to the end of the story. At the beginning tris was a bit brave, but nothing like how she showed herself at the end. By the end of the story Tris proved to be extremely brave and defendant of her family no matter what, even "faction before blood." She began as a member of Dauntless concerned with hiding the fact that she was divergent, and ended being proud to be Divergent. "As of yesterday, I technically became Dauntless, but I don’t feel like one. And I am not Abnegation, either. I guess I am what I have always been. Not Dauntless, not Abnegation, not factionless. Divergent," (Ross 453). She showed this when she protected her family instead of attacking them.
4.) If I were Tris, I too would have revolted. Eurodites are looking for trouble by harming innocent people, and those people happened to be her family. I like Tris, disagree with "faction before blood" and I think her attempt to save her family was the right choice.

    Divergent by Veronica Roth
    1) Most of Dauntless is put into a simulation made by Erudite in which they sleepwalk and are used to wage war on Abnegation. Tris is unaffected because she is Divergent so she works through a lot of obstacles to shut down the simulation from the computers in the Dauntless headquarters.
    2) Tris is very selfless in the end because her family and friends are dying/being taken away yet she still continues to save Abnegation instead of taking time to scream/sob.
    3) Tris is protecting her original faction from the Dauntless attacking and she is beginning to become both brave and selfless symbolized by her two faction tattoos on her shoulders. She is brave enough to go in with a small group working mostly alone to fight multiple Dauntless soldiers that are armed. During this though her parents have to sacrifice themselves for her. Instead of spending this time seeing her parents die before her, she is selfless and goes to end the simulation immediately. “But what I said to my father before was right-for every second that I waste, another Abnegation member dies,”(Roth 471). Being Divergent motivates her to be like this. Both selfless and brave. Four’s words of wisdom also help explain that selflessness is not much different from bravery.
    4) If I were Jeanine, leader of Erudite, (supposed to be super intelligent) I would have not left the simulation room occupied by a single person and I would be there myself to make sure nothing goes wrong.

    2. My character wouldn’t stop worrying about his wife and I found this odd considering that he isn’t a very sensitive man, so it caught me off guard.
    3. In the end my character seems careless. For example, he decides to walk right behind an alien and was lucky enough to be unnoticed. Another example was that he didn’t seem to care what happened to the world after this fiasco, he just figured all humans would die and the Martians would rule forever. Finally he slept right out in the open in a wooded area where aliens could easily find him but again he didn’t seem to worried about it which is much different from how he was acting earlier. He had no motivation for doing anything. “He saw a Tripod but was not terrified,” this is how he now sees the world, nothing is scary and nothing seems to strike any emotion until he sees his wife again.
    4. If I were in his shoes I would have never left the artillery mans side and tried to live with him. He seemed to have lots of knowledge about the Martians and he had his whole life laid out as one huge plan, this would seem safe to me.

    1) In the final section of The Hunger Games, Katniss and Peeta have survived till the very end as the last competitors. Then they announce them both as winners of The Hunger Games.
    2) When Katniss and Peeta were going to poison themselves, i was proud that they wanted to stand up to the capitol. I don’t like the capitol so i think they deserve that embarrassment.
    3) In the end of the book Katniss begins to have more feelings for Peeta. She fights to keep him alive. I think her love for Peeta motivated her in the final parts of the book because she wanted to poison herself and let Peeta win. But Peeta wanted Katniss to win, so they both decided to eat the berries together and die rather than lose each other. I also think Katniss’ hatred towards the Capitol motivated her because she thinks that they shouldn’t be able to control everyone like they do. “Without a victor, the whole thing would blow up in the Gamemakers’ faces. They’d have failed the Capitol,” (Collins 344).
    4) If i was in Katniss’ shoes, i would do the same thing as her. I wouldn’t want to lose the person i love and i would want to embarrass the Capitol.

The pinnacle point of power representation is when Napoleon comes into the farm holding a whip while riding a horse. I was shocked that Napoleon would do such a thing. I do not like Napoleon, all animals on the farm have became unhappy knowing Napoleon's amount of power, so Napoleon should not have done such an action to reinforce such thoughts on the other animals. Napoleon's character traits have not changed from throughout the story; they have been taken to more extremes. His corruptness has been brought up many levels and is now simply making inhumane decisions. Napoleon sees his animals unhappiness with the way he views them, yet he still feels the need to continue to make them feel that way, if not worse. many animals would love to leave the farm but however cannot due to Napolens threatening comments. Tris beats the simulation and makes it in to the lab where she tries to fight Tori into not killing Jeanine quite yet but Tori refuses and Tris is called a traitor, failing her mission. At the end, just as Tris thought she lost Tobias he reappears and plays a video that has the special information Tris was looking for. This video explains that all of the people in the factions were placed there and forced to forget everything in order for them to find how to be a proper human being again. It ends with the person in the video then revealing that shes a Prior, meaning shes a relative of Tris. Tris surprised me by actually going with Marcus to find this information due to the fact that she hates Marcus so much for abusing Tobias as a child. I still like this character since she never gives up and will do anything to get what she desires. At the end of the book Tris is a lot braver and determined then she was before. She knows that going on this mission means she going against Tobias and everyone else but she is driven to get go no matter what. This is because this information was what her parents died for and she knows that it means its life changing information. For the sake of her grief she wants to know why they would die and leave their own children behind , all for something on a computer. "I did make my choice. I chose my mother and father and what they fought for," (Roth 505) Tris doesn't give up on what she believes in and will fight for what she wants no matter the consequences. If i was Tris I definitely would have been mire reserved. The thought of losing everyone else i care about because i was a traitor would kill me and guilt me in to not going along with the plan.

Not really.” This shows how much Katniss really loves Peeta and that she would die for him.
    4. If I was Katniss, I would have never thought to use the berries to trick the capitol into announcing two winners, but if I had thought of that, I would have definitely done the same thing.

In this section of the book, Thalia learns a lot about this new place that they are living in. She learns that the doctor is the guy who tried to keep her at therapy and also that they are going to try and get the girls there pregant. Thalia, Ella (A girl at the camp) and the old guy who she met, all set up a plan to get out. Thalia’s parents come and help them break out also Basil sees that not everything is as it seems so he leaves with them

I was surprised when she asked her parents for help and when they agreed because this whole time they were trying to get her back and now they are they are telling her that she should run away and are helping her do so.

In the end of the book, she is happy and is peaceful at where she is. She is also very content. She is home sick too but she is safe. In the story it says “Tell them, I wish upon the brightest one, that we’ll come back for them soon.” She is telling the stars to tell her family that message. She is in a place in Canada where they are actually growing food (Swain 372).
If i were in her shoes I would be happy that the whole thing is over and that i could finally relax after everything

    1) After Thomas got stung by a griever he figured out that to get out of the maze they have to fight through the grievers and go through the griever hole. Most of the Gladers go to get out of the maze but only a few got out because most of them got killed by a griever.
    2) When Thomas beat up Gally after Gally killed Chuck I liked Thomas more because this showed that he cared about his friends.
    3) Thomas’ motivation was to get out of the maze and get back at the creators for putting all the kids in the maze. “After two years of being treated like mice, tonight we’re making a stand. tonight we’re taking the fight back to the creators, no matter what we have to go through to get there (Dashner 328).” Thomas wants to get payback at the creators for putting all the people in the maze.
    4) If I was Thomas I would have attacked Gally after he killed Chuck because Chuck was Thomas’ friend and motivation from the beginning to get out of the maze.

The group with Katniss figure out how the arena works and devise a plan to kill those not in their alliance. When they try to execute this plan it turns out to be an escape plan, however Katniss is knocked unconscious and when she wakes up she finds out Peeta wasn’t saved and district 12 was bombed. While in the games Katniss was mainly focused on protecting her friends and allies which is a reason I like her as a person. In the end of the book Katniss is very protective of her allies. She is motivated to protect Peeta and make sure he is the winner. While in the arena Katniss says,”There can only be one victor and it has to be Peeta. I must accept this. I must make decisions based on his survival only,” (Collins). This shows that Katniss is still just trying to save her friends but not herself as much. If I was Katniss I wouldn’t have thought to shoot the force field so the tributes could have escaped. I wouldn’t have thought that fast and would’ve just shot the tribute from district 2.

Near the end of the story, Tom has been made aware of the horrendous things that the corporations do to everyone. In a fit of anger Tom flies down a spacecraft and shoots all the skyboards displaying corporation ads destroying millions of dollars worth of technology.
I respect Tom’s decision to shoot down the sky boards displaying the ads because it was an open statement of defiance that no other people dared to do and it helped rid Washington D.C. of all the light pollution caused by the skyboards.
In the end of the story, Tom has reverted back to his old rebellious self. After Blackburn tells Tom the stories of how the many corporations took advantage of the people, Tom hacked into one of the fighter spacecraft used for space warfare and shoots down the skyboards. Tom stills shows traits of his rebellious pasts as he meant for the action to be a statement of defiance to the corporations, however he stills shows respect to authority when he stops after Blackburn tells him to.
If I were in Tom’s shoes, I would probably not have shooting down the sky boards for fear of the consequences. However I admire Tom for his decision, I would not have done it because it would probably come back to bite me.
